Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
We just finished our district-wide decennial New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) visit yesterday. It was great having the visiting committee in our building meeting with teachers, students, and administrators. I had a lot of conversations about how great our students and staff are, which impressed the committee (but not me... I already knew that!). Thank you to everyone who participated in the stakeholder meetings and especially to the students who took time away from their classes to give school tours and represent YHS in focus groups.
Congratulations to this week's Seacoast Student of the Week: Maren Robinson! Each week, we nominate a student from York High School to be featured in the Seacoast Online. Here is what we said about Maren:
Maren transferred to YHS at the beginning of her junior year and has been a welcome addition to our school ever since. This year, she started a Model UN here in York, while also being an active member of our Speech and Debate team. Maren is also a kind-hearted individual who takes pride in her schoolwork. We look forward to seeing her back on the pitching mound this spring before heading off to play softball at the collegiate level.
Stay tuned to see who our Student of the Week is next week!!
If you are looking for some holiday fun this evening, feel free to stop by YHS for the Model UN Holiday Movie Night. They will be showing "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and all donations will support the Model UN.
Enjoy the rest of your week and if you need anything or have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Liza or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Inclement Weather
Tis the season for delays and school cancellations. Superintendent Doak sent out the annual school closure letter back in October, but figured it was good to remind everyone about our procedures.
- If we have a two-hour delay, we start Block 1 at 9:50 (we do not send AM SRTC) and go through our entire bell schedule. If you have late arrival in your schedule Block 2 begins at 10:25.
- If school is canceled, we skip that color day and return to school the following day (all of our blue/white days are pre-determined).
- If Superintendent Doak calls a remote learning day we will follow the schedule below.
We try to notify everyone as soon as possible when there are changes to our school schedule. Superintendent Doak works closely with the highway department, the transportation department, and fellow superintendents to make the best possible decision for school cancellations.
All Prides have a collection bag for Maine Needs. We will be collecting until Wednesday, December 18. Thank you to our SEL Committee for organizing such a worthwhile opportunity for us to give to those less fortunate.
