Hello Ivy Hill Families!
Registration for the 2025-2026 school year opened on Wednesday, January 15th. If you have any neighbors with Kindergarten age children or are new to the Ivy Hill area, please direct them to the district website sd25.org. This registration is for NEW students only, returning Ivy Hill students will register later in the spring.
We are seeing more and more students coming to school without appropriate snow gear. Please remember that our students go outside to play unless the wind chill is below 0 degrees. They cannot play in the snow unless they have snow pants, coat, hat and gloves. Even if they don't want to play in the snow, the snow gear helps to keep them warm on these very cold days! Please pack a shopping bag with their snow gear and send it to school each day. Remember to include gym shoes on their gym days.
It's always helpful to have a set of dry clothes in your child's backpack - especially in the snowy weather!
Ivy Hill takes much pride in the cultural diversity at our school. To celebrate all of our different ethnicities, Ivy Hill will host our Multicultural Fair on Thursday, February 6th from 6:00 - 7:30PM. This is an opportunity for our students to show off their homelands including costumes, music and food - we'd love to have you and your family visit and enjoy the different cultures of all of our friends!
Our Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Friday, February 14th. If you haven't signed up for a conference, please notify your child's teacher.
We are so fortunate to have a wonderful PTA (Parent/Teacher Association) here at Ivy Hill. Please consider joining their program and participating in all the great activities they bring to our students! Check out their weekly newsletter The PTA Happenings!
Please read through this newsletter as there is a lot of important information for you!
Stay safe, stay kind, and stay courageous!

Cold and Flu Season
There is a rise in common illness within our schools.
Please help us keep our students and staff healthy by following this guidance:
Consider keeping your child at home for a day of rest if they have any of these symptoms:
Mild stuffy or runny nose and/or mild cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Stomach ache
Your child must stay home if they have any of these symptoms:
Fever (100.4f or higher)
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Chills
Feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
Frequent Cough, including congested (wet) or croupy cough
Your child may return to school when:
Fever free for at least 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication
At least 24 hours since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea
24 hours after starting antibiotics if prescribed by a provider
Symptoms are improving and they are well enough to participate in normal activities
Help prevent the flu and other colds by teaching your children good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid sharing personal items, food, or drinks.

OUTDOOR GYM AND RECESS - WINTER PROCEDURES
According to the Parent/Student Handbook:
It is our practice to have the children go outside as much as possible during recess , even in the winter. The students do not go outside if it is raining or if the wind chill is below zero. Parents are asked to dress children in appropriate outerwear for the weather conditions, so that students may comfortably take advantage of outside recreational play. Please put names on all outdoor clothing, including boots.
PACK A CHAPSTICK AND HAND LOTION IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK FOR THE WINTER
A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE, MRS. HEIN
EXCUSING CHILDREN FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION OR RECESS Parents of children who have been excused from school due to a medical reason may request that their child be excused from physical activity for up to three days. Extending that time requires a statement from a physician. Please make sure the statement covers any restrictions for both physical education AND recess. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES All students go outside for some physical education classes, recess times and during the lunch break. If there is a medical reason why your child should not go outside, you must secure a statement to that effect from your physician.
THANK YOU FOR GETTING YOUR STUDENT TO SCHOOL ON TIME!
SEND A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK
Anything can happen during the school day - no matter the age of your child! From being caught in the rain, to a failed science experience, things happen! Please pack a change of clothes in each child's backpack for them in keep in case of a "wardrobe malfunction"!
Be sure that all clothing items are marked clearly with your child's name.
ITEMS SENT TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE SHOULD CONTAIN CHILD'S FIRST AND LAST NAME!
DROPPING OFF LATE ITEMS
We have student messengers that deliver late items every morning. To ensure your late items reach your student, try to have them in the office by 9:15. We request that you include your child's first and last name and their teacher's name on each item. We do have post it notes here in the office. Once it is marked with your child's first and last name, please place the item on the colorful bench! Just a reminder...we do have water fountains all over the school so water bottles are not mandatory!!
AHSD25 SCHOOL CALENDAR 2024-2025
Please print a copy of the calendar so that you will know when our holidays occur!
FOOD SERVICES AT IVY HILL
All students at Ivy Hill will be given a Lunch Card that will be remain at school. The lunch card acts like a debit card - each time a student purchases a meal, that amount is deducted from their account.
AHSD25 Food & Nutrition Services Department uses the Mealtime Online Payment System for families to conveniently deposit money and monitor their student(s) lunch account balance.
If you prefer, you can send cash or a check (please make out checks to AHSD25 and write your child's name in the memo). At elementary schools, money is turned into the school office.
We encourage all families to use the mealtime payment system to monitor their child’s balance. Even if you choose to pay for meals with cash/check, you can monitor your students' account online. Once you have established an account for your child, please check the box to have an email reminder sent to you when your balance is low.
You will need your child's Student ID to set up an account - that number is located on the Teacher letter you received on 8/22. Or, call the school office for help.
