Happy Wednesday!
Thank you to everyone who helped to make our Veterans Day celebration a true community effort.
Mrs. Stanton spent many hours working to gather names and flags, teach the children beautiful songs, and many other small details that make a big difference. We thank her! Thank you to the volunteers who gave up part of their Saturday to help rake, leaf blow, and bag thousands of leaves, as well as carefully place the hundreds of flags. Thank you to our special veterans Mr. Stephan Polak, Mr. Kevin King, Jr. and Mrs. Pam Callahan for joining us at Mass. Thank you to Mrs. Amy Beauton, Air Force Veteran and Pre-K Aide, for speaking to our students during the ceremony. And for everyone who joined us, in person or in prayer.
We are truly blessed.
More details will be coming soon about how the monies will be used, but for now we want to share that we will hold three Twinkle Tuesdays in December!
- Dec. 3 - Cozy Christmas (pajamas, sweats, comfy clothes)
- Dec. 10 - Shiny and Bright (glitter, sparkles, neon, actual Christmas lights...the brighter the better!)
- Dec. 17 - Everything Christmas (that's right, go all out!)
All three Fridays in December will be free Dress Down Days.
Sincerely in Christ,
Mrs. Tice
VETERANS DAY
Service to others is a core value we strive to instill in our students. Veterans Day, along with the days leading up to it, provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of serving our country and to express our deep gratitude to those who have done so. We began our day with Mass, honored by the presence of several veterans who helped lead. In his homily, Deacon Tom, a veteran himself, reminded us of the importance of spreading the seeds of God’s word. Afterward, we traveled to the courthouse to participate in the community Veterans Day ceremony.
The day concluded with our second annual Field of Flags ceremony. Our guest speaker, Mrs. Amy Beauton, a Pre-K aide and Air Force veteran, spoke of the various roles within the military, drawing comparisons between the military, a team, and a family. While she spoke, 450 flags waved in our courtyard, each one honoring a veteran connected to our school and parish family.
We are blessed to live in the land of the free because of the brave.
Thank you to all who have served or are currently serving our country.
God bless America.
Family Reading Night
Join the fun!
This year our Saint John Home & School Association will be hosting monthly social events for families. The first activity will be a "Cozy Camp-In Reading Night" and will take place on Wednesday, December 4th from 6:00-7:00pm in the school auditorium. Put on some cozy clothes, grab your books, blankets, and flashlights and spend an evening reading together! All school students and their family members are welcome to attend. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event. Please contact Michelle Russell (mrussell@saintjohnsch.net) or Alison Stauffer (Summersa2@gmail.com) with any questions.
