Message from the Principal's Desk...
In the month of May, teacher teams in Grades K-4 begin the process of creating class lists for the next school year. Goals for placement include optimally providing for children's academic, social and emotional success within a balanced class that works well together. To accomplish these goals classroom teachers, with the assistance of Guidance, Reading Specialists, Special Educators, and other school specialists develop class lists with the following considerations:
- Academic achievement
- Peer relationships and modeling
- Learning/teaching styles
- Boy/Girl ratios
- Special education needs *case managers place students in classrooms where additional supports will exist
- Distribution of behaviorally challenging students
- Verbal/written English language proficiency
- Equitable class size
- Individual needs and interests
- English as a Second Language
As you can imagine our task is not a simple one. However, should you feel there are any special factors that would impact placement for next year that your child’s current teacher may not be aware of, please provide this information to her by May 6, 2024. Do not ask for a specific teacher as we will not honor requests.
It is also important that teachers are informed of any impending moves so that children are not rostered unnecessarily. Staffing patterns are determined by enrollment numbers so enrollment accuracy is paramount.
Your child’s classroom assignment will be e-mailed to you about two weeks prior to the start of school in August. Other pertinent classroom information, will be provided at that time, as well.
