A Note From Mrs. Fragomeni
Families,
We are officially sliding into May this week. I would like to highlight summer learning opportunities available through the Berkley School District. We all know the importance of preventing the "summer slide" and to help our students maintain and/or continue to grow during the summer break. As I learn about more summer learning opportunities, I'll be sure to share it with the community!
Kids Read Now is a FREE program that allows students to choose their own books to read over the summer. Please complete the Wish List form of over 150+ books and return it back to school (if not, students will select the books in media with Ms. Smith). The books will be ordered and mailed directly to their home, one book every 7 to 10 days. Students can then have good fit books to help prevent summer reading slide. The best part, students can keep the books to add to their home libraries!

May Lunch Menu (Featuring Dominos Pizza)
We are excited to share that students will have a new hot lunch item on Tuesdays...Domino's Pizza. Students who order hot lunch on will receive one piece of Domino's pizza as well as their fruit, vegetable, and milk/juice. At this time, students will not have the option for a second slice of pizza.
Students are still able to choose from the other daily options: Cool Kids, Chef's Salad, EZ Soy Butter and Jelly, and Chicken Popper Salad.
Due to the high demand and possible long lines, I have reworked the lunch on Tuesday. The new schedule will significantly reduce the line and the wait time for lunch.

Art Studio Update
Earth Day
Artists at Burton celebrate Earth Day week by making art work with…EARTH!
In the Art Studio, we have been learning how to sculpt with clay, which comes from the Earth! Did you know that clay is just dirt and water and that humans have been making pottery for 20,000 years?!
Artists in grades 2-5 are learning to use various clay tools, to attach clay to clay, to add texture to clay, and make shapes using clay. We are busy making birds, owls, animals, and monsters and cannot wait to glaze our masterpieces!
Happy Earth Day!

Bike & Roll To School Day
Wednesday, May 8
On May 8th join Burton School in celebrating National Bike and Roll To School Day 2024.
On this day we encourage all Burton kids to ride their bike or scooter to school. Riding a bike or riding a scooter to school has many benefits. It is a great way to get your daily recommended sixty minutes of physical activity, promotes healthy habits and wellness, creates a sense of community, helps with traffic congestion, and reduces pollution.
If you live too far, do not let that deter you. Instead of driving all the way to school, park a few blocks away, pull out your bike or scooter, and ride away. Once you arrive at Burton be sure to stop by the gym doors (tubes) to give Mrs. Grabowski, Burton's PE teacher, a high five, sign our healthy heart school banner, and get a fun sticker.
To learn more about the benefits of walking or rolling to school, please tap the link below.

Dear Burton Community,
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is a week-long celebration in recognition of teachers and staff and the contributions they make to education. This week-long celebration is a chance for our school community to come together and show our gratitude. We are so excited to honor our OUTSTANDING Burton Staff!
Teacher/Staff Appreciation week is May 6-10th.
We need your help to make it a success.
Throughout the week we will hold a gift card raffle for all Burton Staff. Each day there will be a raffle and ALL staff will have a chance to WIN!

Please drop gift cards off to my home 10514 Kingston Ave BY April 28th. I will place an envelope in my mailbox labeled TEACHER APPRECIATION for you to place the gift cards.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

We are currently seeking families to host a table on May 15, 2024, from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the Burton gym. We are hoping to have many different countries represented! Burton's Cheetah Running Club is BACK! This happens every fall/spring and allows our students to experience running the track and tracking their progress. They will receive a toe token for every 4 laps they run.
We need some help to make it happen. We'll be running every Wednesday beginning April 17th through May 29th (weather permitting). We will need 6 volunteers from 11:50-12:30 for K,2,4 AND 6 volunteers from 12:20-1:00 for grades 1,3,5. Please report directly to the track where you will be given a volunteer badge. No need to check in at the office.

Join the Berkley PTSA Council!
The Berkley PTSA Council will have 3 open positions on the executive board starting in the 2024-2025 school year. Council needs interested persons to reach out by the end of April so we can share nominees with our Council voting members ahead of the vote at the May 28 Council Training Session.
The time commitment for these positions is significantly different than that of a school/unit PTA executive board position. There is 1 meeting per month and a few big events for the year (Caring & Sharing and Founders' Day in the winter and a Training Session in the Spring). Council works to ensure PTA units stay in compliance and follow MI PTA initiatives by offering training, guidance and overall support. It also works to link PTAs to network among one another, as well as leads district wide PTA initiatives.
