Principal Message
Dear Families,
THANK YOU to our amazingly creative, resourceful, and dedicated group of 5th grade parents and volunteers who pulled together an incredible Haunted Hallway, Auction, and Fall Carnival last week. There were the many weeks of planning and preparation ahead of time, the running of the event, and of course the clean up! It's a labor of love and a true gift to our school community.
I know today is a special day of celebration for many families. It's Diwali and Halloween! The two holidays don't always land on the same day, but this year they do. If your children are trick-or-treating tonight, please think about reflective clothing, glow sticks, bike lights, travel in packs or anything that will help them be visible to drivers. I can't help but worry about all of my Bethany Bobcats. Stay safe and dry. ☔ 🐾 🧡
Tomorrow is PAJAMA DAY and GAME DAY as the last of our Schoolwide Rewards for the Jog-a-thon. Wearing pajamas is optional. I know kids (and some staff) are looking forward to being cozy and comfortable.
Please look for a link for CONFERENCE SIGN-UPS today at 3:15 pm. Our goal is always 100% participation in conferences. In-person conversations are preferred, but if your schedule does not allow for you to come into the school, you may request a conference on Zoom. Fall conferences are an important time to talk with your child's teacher, ask questions, find out about their progress and set goals for the year.
November starts tomorrow! Conferences are on November 13th and 14th. There will be no school on Thursday or Friday!
With Gratitude,
Ms. Rosenquist 🌹

National Microtia Awareness Day, November 9th
Bethany does not have school on November 9th, so we will celebrate on November 8th, by wearing Baby Blue.
Hello, we are the Lichtenberger family and our daughter Lily, who is a 3rd grader this year, was born with microtia atresia of the right ear. Our goal as parents is to spread awareness and celebrate Lily’s differences. “We’re different and we’re the same”.
Microtia is a congenital deformity affecting the outer ear (pinna) where the ear does not fully develop during the first trimester of pregnancy. A microtia ear can often be smaller in size, have a peanut shaped appearance, only a small nub or lobe present, or be completely absent at birth. Microtia is Latin for the words micro and otia, meaning “little ear.” Microtia, often accompanied by Atresia, can affect one ear (unilaterally) or two (bilaterally). Occurring in one in every 9,000 births.
Wear Baby Blue on November 8th
OBOB Updates
Registration for this year's teams will be done through a Google form available below, and on the OBOB Information tab on our school website. Registration runs October 1-31, 2024. Each member of the team should register individually.
Ruby Bridges Walk To School Day
Join us as Walk and Roll to school on November 13th
Every year on November 14, Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day honors the power of dialogue and movements built by young people, and the wisdom young people have to change the world — just as Ruby Bridges did when she took her historic walk to school on November 14, 1960, at just six years old.
We do not have school on November 14th, so Bethany will be participating in the walk on November 13th.

Bethany Walking School Bus
We are looking for a volunteer to lead the future walking school bus from George W Otten park to Bethany Elementary School! The Safe Route office already mapped the route for us. The "bus" lead will bring the students to walk to school every Wednesday. We can also do it more often if possible. Parent volunteers can take turns to lead as well.
Other routes are possible if we have volunteers to propose and willing to lead.
Why join?
A Walking School Bus is a group of students led by an adult volunteer. Join the Walking School Bus to boost your child's physical and mental health with daily exercise, fresh air, and social connections. It's a great way to reduce pollution, make school routes safer, and help your child arrive at school feeling refreshed, ready to learn, and equipped with essential safety and navigational skills.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I sometimes cannot check emails quickly, so please feel free to text or call me at 206-419-1899. Thank you!!!
Best,
Yingying

5th Grade - Option Schools Application
The application window for the 2025-2026 Option School lottery is now open. Students must reside within the Beaverton School District boundary or currently attend a Beaverton School on an approved Interdistrict Transfer in order to apply to an Option school.
Students may only select one Option school on their application. They should give careful consideration to their choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed. We strongly encourage online applications.
Applications must be received online or in the Learning Options office no later than Friday, December 13 at 3:00 p.m. PST.
Current 5th-7th grade students and families who are unfamiliar with the Options Application process are invited to attend an Option Fair. The Option Fair will include a presentation on the application process and the opportunity to visit tables hosted by each Option School.
Current 5th-11th grade students and families who are interested in specific Option Schools are encouraged to attend one or more Open Houses hosted at each Option School. Visit the Learning Options webpage for more information and applications, as well as a complete list of Option Fairs and Open Houses.

Volunteering At Bethany
We want to thank all of our parents who have signed up in the new volunteer system. If you still need to sign-up please use the link below.
School Supplies
Please click on the links below and help us by donating.
You will not find a school supply list for Bethany. Rather than every family having to do their own shopping, we collect money for supplies. We began this a few years ago and it has worked well. This year we are asking for a donation of $35.00 per student.
These donations are flexible, and confidential--only the office knows who donates and how much.
We understand that some families are not able to afford the cost of supplies. All children will receive the same supplies, regardless if they are able to contribute towards the cost. Some families may be in the position to make an extra donation towards helping others. If you would like to help by giving extra money, please click on the "Donations" tab that appears on your child's grade level page.
