HPE Weekly Update 9/22/2024
Harris Park's Shared Mission and Vision
Happy lifelong learners. Passionate and positive in every way!
A Message from Mrs. Mills (Richey)
Happy Sunday Harris Park Families,
We’re excited to partner with you in supporting your child's success! Harris Park offers many resources for parents, including our Parent Portal, which has helpful links to support your family. You’ll also find school lunch menus, important school news, and a Safe-2-Tell link on our website. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher by phone or email with any questions. We are here for you!
Throughout the school year, our district practices various safety drills to ensure the safety of all students and staff. We conduct monthly fire drills, as well as shelter-in-place, hold, and secure drills each semester. In partnership with the Westminster Police Department, we also practice lockdown drills twice a year. If you happen to arrive during a drill, we ask for your patience while we finish. Your support helps us maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
This week’s update also includes information about a social-emotional learning survey for our 3rd through 5th graders.
Finally, a reminder: Student-led conferences are scheduled for October 8, 9, and 10 from 3:15-5:15 p.m. If you haven’t yet returned your blue conference preference form, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time. Don’t forget to stop by the Book Fair in the library during conference hours!
Thank you for being a valued part of our Harris Park family!
Love,
Mrs. Mills (Richey)

Student Social Emotional Learning Survey Notification
Dear Westminster Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next few weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing during the school day. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on social emotional competencies and well-being as well as, what supports they may need in our current learning environment.
We are asking that all of our students in grades 3-5 participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
If you have any questions about the SEL survey, please don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Bobbi at bambroso@wps.org.
Scholars Unlimited
Registration will be available in August at this link.
Scholars After School is a 30 week after school program that runs from mid September to mid May on school days from 2:50-4:50. This fun program includes snacks, literacy support, enrichment activities, and time for scholars to explore and use their voice and choice to guide how they would like to engage.
Scholars Unlimited is proud to offer our programs at no cost to students or their families. We accept all students of all races, ethnicities, genders, orientations, national origins, and immigration statuses.
Available for K-5 students
What makes this program so successful?
We start with a brief assessment to determine each student’s individual literacy learning needs. Then, students are grouped according to those needs for small-group instruction. Our teacher-to-student ratio of 1:6 ensures that each child receives personalized support.
Students also participate in self-paced computer learning, which is proven to help students master fundamental skills that are essential for reading fluency.
This combination of teacher-led intervention and computer-based tutoring is referred to as “blended learning” — and for our scholars, it’s a recipe for success.
Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver
The Westminster Boys & Girls Club provides after-school and summer programs to kids ages 6-18 at Hidden Lake High School in Westminster, Colorado. Club members can choose from a variety of programs, build relationships with caring adults, and learn important life skills.
