CAREER VISIT - SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Nighthawks are in interested in a career in software engineering? If so, stop by the Nighthawk Center on April 2nd during student lunch to meet Jacob Anderson.
Mr. Anderson's career began in research and development roles, first at Los Alamos National Laboratory and then at BBN, where he refined his skills in software engineering and early internet-based technologies. Moving to PRAJA, he became one of its early employees, leading innovative web projects tied to live sports tracking, such as FOX NFL GameTracker 2000.
Mr. Anderson established Beyond Ordinary Software Solutions, specializing in custom software for financial and entertainment clients, particularly in insurance automation and underwriting solutions. Alongside his work at Beyond Ordinary, he founded or led several ventures-including AccessQuery, an early pay-per-click recruitment platform; XPLive, a SaaS provider focused on secure messaging; and Totally Evil Entertainment, a game development studio that maintained the open-source Cocos2D-XNA framework.
Throughout these roles, Jacob has expanded his expertise by pursuing machine learning and cyber security expertise, blending entrepreneurial drive with a consistent focus on applying forward-looking technology to practical, real-world challenges.
Trade school opportunity
ABC San Diego Training Academy will be visiting during Break in the Nighthawk Center on Tuesday during lunch.
ABC trade school offers apprenticeships and training programs for various trades including electrical, plumbing and more. Stop by to learn about these career opportunities.
CAREER PRESENTATIONS - PRESENTERS NEEDED
Each winter and spring, the counseling department offers career presentations to our student body. This is an opportunity for students to learn first-hand about professions that interest them.
We are hoping to continue this tradition and are looking for parents in our Nighthawk community that would be willing to share information regarding their career journey. These are informal 20-30 minute lunch meetings that will be held in the Nighthawk Center during student lunch.
We try to align the presentations with our Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways. PUSD Career Technical Education focuses on the changing workplace that demands high levels of academic and applied knowledge and skill. Throughout the district, career pathway programs are offered in twelve of the fifteen high-growth industry sectors identified by the State of California. To learn more about the CTE Program click HERE.
If you would like to volunteer your time and offer a lunch career presentation, please email Sue Reich at sreich@powayusd.com Please include a brief description of your career.
