Cobra Strike
From the Desk of the Junior/Senior High School Principal
"Don't do a Cobra Strike about us. Nobody cares about us Rodeo kids" Paden Askren
A bit of a late edition, but here is why.
For the past three school years, whenever a student has asked me to attend anything that they do outside of the normal school event, I have done my very best to attend. From plays to demolition derbies I have gotten to watch our students represent Jackson Heights in every way possible...except for our rodeo kiddos. They have been trying to get me there for three years now. They are always either in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Garden City, when they were close enough I was covering admin duty somewhere else. However, this weekend the stars aligned and I got to go down to Emporia to watch four of our students being their best selves in every way possible. While it was cold, wet, muddy, and we may not have done our best today I still enjoyed every minute of watching them do their thing. First we got to hang out with Savannah Cattrell and her mom while Savannah gave my boys a ride on one of her horses, then we went over to watch the team roping as Paden Askren and Cooper Hewitt gave it their all. Right after them was Savannah's turn at the Break Away competition. Then off to watch her again at the barrel races and I had the luxury of standing in the "splash zone" as I was taking the below picture. Afterward, back to the main ring so I could catch Paisley Askren give it a go in the middle school division of the break away competition.
While I was in the stands talking to parents and grandparents, I found out that these four aren't all we have for a rodeo representation at JH. We have had state champions, nationally ranked ropers, and professional rodeo clowns. We have a great history of Cobras in Rodeo and I hope it lasts for a very long time.
So I am sorry Paden but I did do a Cobra Strike about you Rodeo kids, because I care about all of my students.
All in all it was a great day watching some of our Cobras do their thing. And I hope this is an open invitation to all of my students. If you are out there demonstrating the Cobra core values outside of school and would like for me to come check it out, I would love to come check it out.

From the first day to the last day, It's a great day to be a COBRA!

We got our first batch of senior posters back from Susan Rollins and man oh man are they impressive. We got our Volleyball Senior posters in and I now can't wait for the ones for Cross Country and Football to come in now. Between these and the banners I am so glad that we brought Susan in to do these. If anyone is interested in getting any copies of the rest of the shoot or a copy of the team banners from Susan, please email her at susrollins@gmail.com

Digital
One of the big changes this year has been in Mr. Alley moving from social studies into computers and Digital Media Pathway courses. They have high ambitions for the class and are pulling it off. They have been working on doing not only a semester long project in the form of their documentary on the Football season, but also smaller clips like the one below highlighting the First Friday events from September. they will be putting out a lot of content this year and I am very impressed with what has been coming out of the basement these past few weeks. I got to watch the clip that is the highlight reel from the Maur Hill football game and i was incredibly impressed. These classes are one of the ways where we are listening to our students and the direction we need to be thinking about going with our courses for them to benefit most from the education we can provide them. Students wanted digital classes where they could explore digital marketing and we gave it to them.

After she got done with her pole bending and the goat roping, she found time to take my boys for a quick ride on her horse. they loved it. When we told Hiccup that we were going to a rodeo today and get to go watch Cowboys and Cowgirls, he had to go put on his Cowboy outfit (Woody). He was very excited for the day.
It really is
a great day to be a Cobra!!
