A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families and Staff,
Summer is knocking at our door and students are eagerly awaiting the start of summer vacation. Until then, we will have plenty of events and accomplishments to share.
Students had a great time participating in the Freshman Challenge and Class Carnival last Friday. The Freshman Challenge is a culminating end of the year activity hosted by the Freshman World History teachers. Twenty-Seven students competed in a morning long academic challenge that was filled with tug-o-war, musical challenges, and a dance off. Congratulations to Max Cocci, winner of the Freshman Challenge. He was joined by first runner up, Daniel Corcoran, and Josh Maldonado in third place. The Freshman Cohort teachers include Mr. Walter, Mr. Martirone, Mr. Hackney, Mr. Bell, Mr. Jacoby, Mr. Hesse & Mr. Luchio and were judged by the freshman English teachers. This program was made possible by a Mini grant from the EHT Ed. Foundation and donations from our Teen Center. Following the Freshmen Challenge, the Class of 2027 enjoyed a day outside filled with food, friends and a dunk tank where they were able to take their shot at dunking their teachers and administrators during the Class Carnival.
A big congratulations to Kayla V. Nguyen (University of Pennsylvania), Ranajoy Gupta (Princeton University), Gabrielle Hilter (Florida State University), Lawrence Ho (University of Pittsburgh) and Jewel Mallari (Stockton University) who were honored at the Atlantic County Academic Excellence Award luncheon as the top 5 of the Class of 2024. We are so proud of you and your accomplishments!
We honored 144 seniors at the Senior Awards Ceremony, with our community supporting our students with $18.1 million in scholarships! In addition to those receiving scholarships, we recognized 93 students for earning the Seal of Biliteracy! Special recognition goes to those students earning two or three Seals, a first for EHTHS!
Thank you to Ms. Musacchio, our Senior Awards Coordinator and Master of Ceremonies, for making the evening so impactful for our students and their families.
Congratulations to the Girls Track and Field team for their performance last weekend at NJSIAA Group 4 Sectional Championships. Amari Pinkett placed 4th in the triple jump (35’4”), Kiki Schlemo placed 4th in the 1600 (5:11.36) and 3rd in the 3200, and the relay team (Bithania Andermariam, Rachael Bellentini, Devyn Per, and Taylor Rooney) placed 3rd in the 4x800 relay (9:55.46). The Boys Track and Field team also had a great weekend at the Group 4 South Jersey Championships. Mike Simeon won the Shot Put, with other state qualifiers including Xavier Cocci (Javelin), Sawyer Schmidt and Matt Robertson (Pole Vault), the 4x800 team (Matthew McDevitt, Aaron Wagner, Chase Mazur, and Christopher Manzo), and Xavier Aucule (400IH). We wish them the best of luck as they’re all heading to the State Championships this weekend! Finally, the flag football took second place in the state after a close loss to Kingsway at the Nova Care Center on Saturday night.

CLIMATE AND CULTURE
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/

🌟May 16th was Mental Health ACTION Day!🌟
While Mental Health Awareness is incredibly important; it is also important to put some steps into ACTION in terms of self-care for ourselves or the people we love. Although the day has passed, in honor of Mental Health Action Day, try to take a day this week to do something that is best for yourself, your loved ones or your community. Something as simple as repeating the above statement to yourself 3 times is a great start! Try it! And then try it once a day!🌟😊
