Welcome To Week #21
Dear Brahma Family,
If you haven’t been on campus to see our winter sports teams compete in the Palomares League, our boys and girls soccer and basketball teams have home games this week (see the calendar below). I hope you can come out to cheer on the Brahmas.
Brahma Tech is helping collect donations for fire victims. See the flyer below for a list of the items they are collecting. Students may drop items off in Room 265 (Brahma Tech Office) before school or during lunch by Friday, January 31.
If you would like to help out some members of our Brahma family who have lost homes in the fires, some ways you can help are below.
- Alyssa Corona Jaochico wrote to me to let me know that 1998 graduate Ana Giraldo, now Ana Gjurgevich, lost her home during the Eaton fire. Alyssa wrote that it was at DBHS where the two of them met and they are still great friends today. Alyssa went on to write that Ana is one of the kindest humans she’s ever met. https://gofund.me/7ad83875
- The home of the parents of Dr. Reuben Jones burned down in the Eaton fire. Reuben was our principal from 2016-2023. https://gofund.me/daf5e02f
Sincerely,
David Hong
Principal

Seniors, FAFSA is open!
SENIORS, go online as soon as possible to fill out your Free Application forFederal Student Aid at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Don’t wait until your parents’ tax return is ready – you’ll use the information from their 2022 tax return. Again, it’s best to get your FAFSA filled out as early as possible, and the F in FAFSA stands for free so if you’re ever on a website that asks for you to pay them money, you’re in the wrong place.
REMINDER: THE FAFSA IS NOT OPTIONAL! California Assembly Bill 132 was
signed into law last year and requires school districts to confirm SENIORS have completed the FAFSA or California Dream Act application (https://dream.csac.ca.gov/landing) before graduating. There is a way to opt-out of completing the FAFSA, and if that’s what you and your parents want to do, you’ll have to pick up that opt-out form from your GLC and return it in order to qualify for graduation. “Hey, man, why aren’t you going to graduation practice?” “Oh, I never filled out the FAFSA or the opt-out form. You can’t tell me what to do!” “Oh… um, good one. You’re really showing…someone… something.”
