Notes from Counseling
In this week's Counseling IF Short...
Students learned about BRIDGE Bill (Building Resourceful Individuals to Develop Georgia's Economy)! Click HERE to view the recording!
Following the lesson, all students received a Canvas message with step-by-step instructions on how to access YouScience and complete their required (by the state) grade-level activities.
- 9th-11th grade students' grade-level activities must be complete by October 31!
- 12th grade students are exempt from this for now...their grade-level activities will be required to complete in the Spring!
In next week's Counseling IF Lesson...
Students will be taken on a deep dive of YouScience - an incredible tool available to all of our students to discover "the science of YOU - how your mind is wired, what makes you tick, the skills and knowledge that set you apart. YouScience instills hope, purpose, and direction by connecting natural talent, skills, and knowledge with in-demand education pathways and careers."
College Applications
Transcripts are ready! School counselors have begun working on completing college applications for seniors now that transcripts are ready.
As a reminder, we complete applications in the order they are due, not the order in which they are received, so it is super important that students select deadlines in their Common App so we are able to prioritize accordingly!
- The exception to this is for students who are applying to a Rolling Admissions school - students were instructed to please notify their school counselor and teacher recommender if that is the case so we know to put your application at the top of our priority list!
9th Grade Guidance
Attention 9th grade parents! Our 9th grade counselor, Ms. Vargas, will be delivering the district-wide SOS Signs of Suicide awareness and prevention program to all face-to-face 9th grade students September 5th - October 16th via English class. Due to the sensitive nature of the material, we want to provide this program and any follow-up discussion through a face-to-face format only.
We have attached (below) a parent information letter with details about the program, specific information regarding our presentation, and how to inform the Counseling Office if you do not want your child to participate if they are in a face-to-face English class.
We look forward to sharing this important information with your child and parent resources can be found at www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent.
