Lubbock High Dominates District Swimming Meet
Varsity Highlights:
- 400 Freestyle Relay: Both Girls and Boys teams placed 1st, breaking District Records.
Individual Champions:
- 100 Breaststroke: Sarah Poe (Girls) and Gunnar Hansen (Boys, District Record).
- 100 Backstroke: Reese Rains (District Record) and Nhat Nguyen (3rd).
- 500 Freestyle: Emery Fox (1st) and Hallie Barron (3rd); Diego Martinez-Ocon (3rd for Boys).
- 100 Freestyle: Stacy Dzygun (1st) and Abigail Anderson (2nd); Jack Spalding (2nd) and Sebastian Ioppolo (3rd for Boys).
- 100 Butterfly: Gabriela Siebecker (1st) and Layla Stankus (3rd); Gunnar Hansen (1st, Meet Record) and Reese Rains (2nd for Boys).
- 200 IM: Emery Fox (1st) and Sarah Poe (2nd); Diego Martinez-Ocon (3rd for Boys).
- 1-Meter Diving: Reed Multer placed 2nd.
JV Highlights:
Both the Girls and Boys teams finished 1st overall.Notable performances include:
- 400 Free Relay: JV Girls took 1st place.
- 100 Breaststroke: Anna Rose (Girls) and Alan Soto (Boys) claimed 1st.
- 100 Backstroke: Oliver Doty (1st), Cannon Beard (3rd).
- 500 Freestyle: Oliver Doty (1st) and Oliver Brinker (2nd); Anna Rose (2nd).
- 100 Butterfly: Jino Kamgari (Girls, 1st) and Joey Johnson (2nd for Boys).
- 50 Freestyle: Jino Kamgari (2nd), Paytn Perez (3rd); Alan Soto (2nd for Boys).
- Diving: William McCauley placed 1st.

Academic Decathlon Brings Home Gold at Regionals!
Congratulations to Lubbock High Schoolβs Academic Decathlon team for their awesome performance at the Regional competition this weekend in Arlington, Texas. The team brought home more than 60 individual medals and the 1st place overall team.
The team consists of Dania Alkul, Echo Ancell, Robert Gaines, Tola Grupke, Irene Liang, Madeline Weaver, Aubrie Alvarado, Michael Herrera, and Toby Tiner. They are coached by Thomas Reynolds, Nick Reeves, and Erin Castle.
P.S. Happiest of birthdays to Echo Ancell. We celebrated by eating pounds of cake and taking a slew of tests!

Students demonstrating positive behaviors in and out of the classroom can earn Best in the West! cards from STUCO. These cards enter you into a weekly drawing. The more GRIT you show, the more entries you can earn. Winners are chosen randomly on Fridays, so keep it up. Remember, you never know who is watching those positive behaviors!
Counselors Corner!
π '25-'26 Scheduling
Counselors will meet with 11th graders this week to work on scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year. 9th & 10th grade meetings occurred in December and the 2nd week of January. If you were absent for your class presentation, please email your counselor to arrange an appointment. All 9th-11th graders should join the Google Classroom for scheduling, (Class Code: i4fy2ey), and submit their scheduling page signed by a parent ASAP.
πWelding I/Cosmetology I Interest Forms
Attention Students: If you wish to take Fire Academy (12 only), Welding I (10-12), or Cosmetology I (11), in 2025-2026, you must complete an interest form or application for these courses. These forms can be found by following this LINK. Deadline: February 7 (If you complete an interest form, please let your counselor know so they can include this course request in your plan.)
π Doyle Vogler Memorial Scholarship
The Doyle Vogler Memorial Scholarship honors a longtime teacher and administrator in Lubbock ISD. Vogler touched the lives of countless students and staff over his 30-year career in the district. He was passionate about the districtβs mission of nurturing, developing, and inspiring every child, every day and was deeply committed to educational equity for all students.
These $2,500 scholarships are awarded to support the educational goals of Lubbock ISD students that embody the Lubbock ISD mission, vision, and values.
