FWCS donates school bus for use at Safety Village
Fort Wayne Community Schools donated a retired school bus to the Fort Wayne Fire Department and the Fort Wayne Police Department to be used for safety training.
The bus will be stationed at the Safety Village. It will be used to teach children how to safely evacuate a bus during emergencies like crashes. The training is designed to equip students with essential life-saving skills.
This partnership between Fort Wayne Community Schools and local emergency services demonstrates a commitment to student safety and community well-being.
The Safety Village combines both police and fire safety educational curriculums.
Want to join the FWCS team? We're hiring Bus Drivers and Bus Assistants!
The wheels on the buses can’t go round and round without you as a Bus Driver. We are actively seeking Bus Drivers and Bus Assistants to grow our dedicated transportation team. No CDL? No problem! We can assist interested applicants with the process of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License, and we can even pay you as a Bus Assistant during the training period. Performance-based incentives available! Apply online at www.fwcsjobs.org!
Mayor Tucker visits Peacemaker Academy
For the first time, students from all five FWCS high schools are participating in the Alive Community Outreach Peacemaker Academy. To show her support and to inspire these young community leaders, Mayor Sharon Tucker visited the students and offered words of encouragement.
The Peacemaker Academy is a leadership development program that teaches sophomores, juniors and seniors the six principles of nonviolence as taught by Martin Luther King Jr. It originally started with 12 students and has now increased to 60 students.
“We are very pleased to be expanding our Peacemaker program to all FWCS high schools,” said Angelo Mante, Executive Director for Alive Community Outreach. “This will allow us to develop even more leaders who are committed to making peace in their school and community. We are grateful to Mayor Sharon Tucker for meeting with our students and supporting their efforts to build a culture of peace in their schools.”
The Peacemaker Academy expansion is made possible from funding provided by the SAFER schools initiative.

Levan Scott Academy unveils new renovations to public
After a nearly two-year renovation that doubled the size of Levan Scott Academy, the doors were opened to the public to tour the new education space.
The $17 million project added 19 modernized classrooms, a media center, cafeteria, collaboration spaces, parking lot and a parent pick-up lane.
Scott Academy opened in 1956 under the name Southern Heights Elementary School.
In 2000, the school was renamed in honor of Dr. Levan R. Scott, who served Fort Wayne Community Schools for 28 years. He was the first African American principal in the city when he took over as the leader of McCulloch Elementary School in 1965. When he retired from FWCS in 1986, he was Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services.
