Martell Monitor
Volume 7: Issue 2 August 19, 2024
A Note From Mrs. Barsh
Happy Monday, Martell! I hope you were able to read last Friday's Martell Monitor! Here are a few additions for the week ahead!
Remember that arrival to school the first weeks will be a last minute decision based on the construction! I WILL keep you informed! We will arrive to the school following the same procedure as before (listed below). HOWEVER, if accessing the back area is not an option due to construction, we will ALL enter through the front doors and line up inside. You will get a night before school email from me letting you know what our plan is based on the work!
Happy Meet the Teacher week! Our staff cannot wait to welcome you this Thursday from 4-5pm!
Reminder: On a special personal note, my family will be visiting our cousins overseas for a wedding the week of the 19th. In advance of Meet the Teacher, please give your children a HUGE HUG from me and let them know I will see them soon! I will return in time for the first day of school on the 27th and will be outside ready and waiting for my beautiful Mustangs!! Thank you for understanding the importance of this day for my extended family!
In Partnership,
Michelle Barsh, Principal

CHANGES TO YOUR CHILD'S DISMISSAL
~If your child's pick up will be different than normal, please ALWAYS send a note to your child’s teacher.
~Please do NOT rely on email to a teacher. Teachers are teaching during the day, and sometimes cannot get back to their computer if it's a late message! We do not want to miss a dismissal message.
~We will not vary your child’s end of the day routine unless we have a note from you.
~Should you have an emergency and need to change his/her schedule, please call the office before 2:30pm
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
~If your child requires any kind of medication either over the counter or prescribed, you will need to fill out a medical form and have it signed by your physician.
~If your child has a severe medical condition, please turn in this form and the medication prior to the first day of school.
~All medication must be brought into school by an adult.
~Below is a link to the forms you will need.
NOON AIDES NEEDED
We need help from 11:20am-1:20pm Monday through Friday.

FOOD SERVICE
SEPTEMBER LUNCH MENU - Lunch begins August 28
Breakfast begins on Tuesday, September 3
As we move forward into the 2024-25 school year, due to the budget recommendations proposed by Governor Whitmer, the District will again be providing both breakfast and lunch meals to all students without cost to families. However, we are still required to provide and maintain Free and Reduced Lunch Applications, as submitted. A la carte items will be available to purchase if there are funds in the student’s account. The Food Service Department will now be using MySchoolBucks.
Families are encouraged to continue to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal/Summer EBT/Educational Benefit Application online. (A new application is required at the beginning of each school year.) Your application ensures that the Troy School District will continue to receive state and federal funding for education. Without this information, Troy Schools could lose important state funding for our programs that our students are entitled to.
All information submitted is strictly confidential. By selecting to share your information, it will allow the district to confidentially share your information and benefit from the following programs:
- Pandemic-EBT
- Pay to Participate (athletics and clubs)
- Annual iPad Insurance
- Food Support Programs (weekend backpacks, holiday meals, etc.)
- Field Trip Support Programs (reduced rates/scholarships for field trips)
- Programs that provide School Supplies and/or assist with School Fees (filled backpacks and supplies from requested supply list, testing fees, financial support for tutoring/summer programs)
- Programs that provide Holiday Support (meals, holiday gifts, opportunity for children to shop for gifts at no cost)
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact our Food Service Office at 248-823-5089. Thank you for your support!
ICHAT Parent Volunteer Form
VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
The Troy School District values those who volunteer in our classrooms and schools. If a volunteer will be with students for a significant length of time without a TSD employee being present, or will be with students on a regular basis, that volunteer is required to have a Michigan State Police Internet Criminal History Access Tool (I-CHAT) screening annually. All results will remain confidential and will only be used by the TSD administration to determine if you have been convicted of an offense that would otherwise prohibit you from working in our schools.
