Tip for Improving School Attendance:
Establish a consistent morning and bedtime routine to help your child get enough rest and start the day smoothly. Set out clothes and pack backpacks the night before to reduce stress in the morning. A well-rested, prepared child is more likely to have a positive attitude about going to school every day!

We did a glow day last week. For this game we turned out the lights, danced with our glow bracelets and then froze when the music stopped to read a cvc word on the board (which glowed). Then I called on a student to use the pointer and find the picture.
Our class is also doing a “Screagle of the week”. This student works hard all week to stay on task, do their best work, participate in group discussions, take care of their supplies and just all around be a good kindergartener. They get a stuffed eagle to sit at their desk for the week, along with a hat and a certificate to take home. And they get special privileges like using markers and glittery glue on their work. It’s a coveted prize in my room. This week it’s Aubrey Tapani.
Middle School Highlights
This has been an exciting week for sports in Reardan; today we did a spirit tunnel for our State bound wrestling team, and both of our HS basketball teams earned a spot at state playoffs as well. Our middle school students love participating in spirit activities and seeing the hard work of athletes pay off. Spring sports will be right around the corner at the end of March, and there is no better way to build strong relationships and a positive attitude toward school than participating in some kind of extracurricular activity. Email Principal Newsum dnewsum@reardansd.net or Athletic Director Kenton Clairmont kclairmont@reardansd.net with any questions!
Students in Ms. Koch’s ELA classes were totally engaged in building critical thinking skills using a hexagon building activity to discuss The Outsiders novel and focus on communication and collaboration skills. Students were spiritedly debating connections between themes and characters in the novel and were excited to share their thoughts with the whole group. Mrs. Hamilton’s health class had students working on a group activity that involved putting puzzles together with zero talking and no idea of what the finished product would look like. They had to really focus on nonverbal communication and loved this engaging contest. Ms. Nurvic’s geography class is busy planning a cross country road trip as a fun way to learn geography. Ask your children about their favorite thing they learned today and see what they come up with!

High School Highlights
Dear Families,
As we move through the third quarter and head into March, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance. March can feel like a long month, but every school day counts!
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year for any reason—excused or unexcused. In a 180-day school year, that means 18 or more absences can put a student at academic risk. Research shows that chronic absenteeism is linked to lower grades, lower test scores, and an increased likelihood of dropping out.
We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students consistently attend school. If you have any concerns about attendance, please let us know—we’re here to support you!
Thank you for your continued commitment to your child’s success.

Options Program Highlights
Options Spotlight: Katie Lear
We're thrilled to have Katie join the Reardan School District Options Program as a paraprofessional and enrichment class facilitator this year! When she's not working, you'll find her hiking, working out, or exploring with her husband and twin boys. Katie was drawn to the district by her desire to be involved in her children's education and contribute to a close-knit community school. Fun fact: she has identical twin sons (age 6) and an identical twin sister! Katie's talent and spunky personality make her a great addition to the team!
Monthly Progress Reviews
It's that time again! February MPR forms are due by February 25th for review. In lieu of our regular meeting, please also complete the math and ELA grade level checklists for your students that were emailed to you. This will assist us in tailoring academic support. Any questions or concerns arising from the checklists should be noted on the MPR form.
Enrichment Classes
Our classroom is buzzing with anticipation as we witness the incredible transformation of our trout each week! Raising trout in the classroom offers students a unique, hands-on experience in observing the life cycle of fish and understanding aquatic ecosystems. From hatching eggs to releasing fingerlings, students gain valuable insights into biology, environmental science, and the importance of conservation through the classroom trout program.
Kindergartners and 1st graders learn a surprising amount when building a snow fort! It's not just about fun (though that's a big part of it!). Here are some of the skills learned:
- Problem-Solving - figuring out how to move large amounts of snow efficiently
- Fine Motor Skills - packing snow into shapes and smoothing services refines hand-eye coordination
- Social/Emotional Skills - working together to achieve a common goal
