Elementary Edition: September 2024 Newsletter
Mrs. Rush’s Monthly Message
We’ve had a fantastic start of the school year, with lots of learning and adjustment happening! Students are settling into their new routines and getting to know their new teacher. We understand that with these changes, there can be some bumps along the way. It’s normal for students to feel tired or frustrated at times, and we want you to know that we are here to support them positively, even if their emotions get big.
As we establish new routines, it’s crucial for students to get adequate sleep and arrive at school on time each day. Research indicates that missing just one day of school can equate to 2.5 days of lost math learning and 1.5 days of lost language and literacy learning.
Additionally, frequent absences can impact more than just academics. Children who miss school often show less strong interpersonal skills (how they interact with others), experience higher levels of school-related stress, and have lower motivation and feelings of belonging.
Thank you for your support in helping us ensure that all students have a successful and enriching school year.

Library Lines
from Mrs. Nagle
Happy Back to School, all! It is great to be here!
This year’s Accelerated Reader program theme is “Get Caught Reading!” Students in grades 1-6 will be coloring a fish to represent themselves on the wall outside the Library. As they read and take quizzes on the books, they will earn points toward the 20 goals I have set. Each time they reach a goal, their fish will move down the wall, and they will receive a certificate and prize. We will also have the 100-Point Field Trip goal again this year. To earn a spot on the field trip, students need to reach 100 points by the end of May 2nd.
Logo Club
LEGO Club is back, as well! Permission slips were sent home this week, and must be returned before students can attend. LEGO Club will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:00 p.m. Any schedule changes will be shared asap via the school announcements, school social media platforms, and/or via Remind. LEGO Club is a great opportunity for students to engage in creativity, collaboration, & constructive play.
Coming Soon in the Library!
Coming Soon! Quiet Club will be a new option upon morning arrival for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays starting the week of September 9th. From 8:00-8:25, elementary students who would prefer a quieter time may come to the Library. Activity choices will include reading, taking AR quizzes, coloring, drawing, and eventually, puzzles.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables!
Fruit and Veggies offered for snack Prek-6th Grade.
Starting the week of September 16th, we will be providing fresh fruits and/or vegetables to all students in Pre-K through 6th grade on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On these days, you do not need to send a snack with your child, as we will be supplying these healthy options at school.
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federal initiative that provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools. The program is designed to offer these healthy snacks during the school day, outside of regular meals like breakfast or lunch. Its primary goal is to enhance children's diets and foster healthier eating habits, with the aim of improving their current and future health. By introducing a wider variety of fruits and vegetables, the FFVP supports schools in creating healthier environments and encourages increased consumption of nutritious foods among students.
We encourage you to help your child try and enjoy these snacks. Your support in promoting healthy eating habits is greatly appreciated!
