Principal's Message
October is a very active time at Kenai Alternative Hight School. This month brings an end to our second Rotation, Spirit week and the kick off to what I call Holliday Heaven. Our students and staff are busy planning our annual Thanksgiving dinner November 19th. The third rotation kicks off our After School Academy, where students have the opportunity to gain elective credit in after school classes. This session of After School Academy offers culinary arts and photography/graphic arts.
Students and staff are also busy continuing their march toward meeting graduation requirements. Elisabeth's Government class recently held mock elections on student written initiatives. They learned the process of civil government and how laws are written voted on and become law. Dan's classes are working on developing this years hydroponics garden and building relationships and life skills in PE. Alison's math students are earning their math credits. Several students have reached their 1/2 credit with two week to go in the class. Many are finishing up and will receive their 1/2 credits in the next coming weeks. And a few have gone above expectation and earned 1.0 credits and beginning work on their next course. Anna's students are producing multiple art pieces with the ceramics class firing their first pieces in the kiln. RaeAnn's reading students are growing quickly to increase their reading abilities. In all classes students are striving and thriving.
School wide we are working hard to reach our goals of increasing attendance and graduation rates. The key factor in success at school is attendance. Our rates are hovering around 78%. This is an improvement from this time last year, but we are wanting to see the rates rise into the mid 80's. This increased attendance will certainly have positive affects on our graduation rates in May.
Remember to set aside November 19th for our Thanksgiving dinner from 12:00 to 1:00pm in the KALT gym. The students look forward to the opportunity to to give back to the community and thank all those who have supported them this past year.
Counselor's Message
We do not have a full time counselor at this time and are looking forward to searching for one in the coming months.
Shannon Dodge and her crew from Kenitze are here every Wednesday to help with career planning, resume writing, interview assistance, and general mentorship. Please don't hesitate to stop in.
Middle College has opened and is taking applications. They are anticipating 5 openings. If you are interested act quickly to get on the waiting list.
Job Center opportunity. We will be setting up a presentation and a visit for a small group of students to the Job Center across the street.
Parent Conferences
The staff of Kenai alternative spent two days meeting with parents and students during parent conferences. Staff took this opportunity with parents to both celebrate students work and efforts and also discuss challenges and work that yet needs to be completed. Thank you to all the parents involved and I look forward to our nest set of conferences.
If you at any time wish to have a conference with your student's teachers, please call and we will get the meeting setup.

School Development Goals
Our goals for the 2024-25 school year are a continuation from the progress we made last year in the areas of improving attendance and graduation rate and social emotional awareness.
For SY 204-25, Kenai Alternative High School will increase the graduation rate to 55% and in turn decrease our drop out rate to less than 25% by offering credit earning opportunities through the continues implementation of the 6 rotation schedule, offering Academic Academy classes and partnering with community organizations with credit offerings
For SY 2024-35 Kenai Alternative will continue working to increase student's ability to remain clam even when under stress by 8% (to 80%) and the KPBSD Climate and Mindset annual survey through the mentorship classes and community building activities.
For SY2024-25 Kenai Alternative will be working to increase our attendance rate past 73% by emphasizing relationships in our mentorship classes.
