St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 4 | 22 MAY 2025
"Lord, you are my source of strength; all power abides with you. I pray for a strong and robust body capable of doing hard work, practicing exercise, and being resistant to illness.
I thank you as I trust in you, God. May I find new strength and soar to great heights. Amen"
Dear Parents and Carers
Our Year 6 students are on the final stages leading up to the celebration of Confirmation on Saturday June 7 and Saturday June 14. I wish them all the best and know that the students will have a wonderful experience in celebrating their respective Sacraments. The students will participate in their Confirmation retreat next week.
Please note that students are able to wear sports uniform on Thursdays and Fridays from next week. This will be a permanent arrangement from next week.
Friday May 30 will be a pupil free day and children do not attend school on this day. The following Monday will be a Public holiday.
I will be at a CEWA meeting next Tuesday. Mr Yock will be in charge during my absence.
Our cross country will be held next week and I would like to thank Mr Chatt for organising the day and preparing the students for the day. Fingers crossed the weather will be fine and I am sure there will be some great efforts by students.
Just a timely reminder to families that if there are issues regarding students at St Columba’s, it is not up to parents while on the school grounds to approach children other than their own and discuss issues or reprimand. Parents need to advise a classroom teacher and/or the leadership team who will then investigate and act if deemed necessary.
God bless, and keep safe.
Allen McMahon
Principal

National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.
Our Year 1-6 students will participate in a Sorry Day Assembly on Monday, 26 May, at 9am, led by our Year 6 leaders. Parents are welcome to attend.
Confirmation Masses
We are excited to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year 6 candidates at two upcoming Masses on Saturday, 7 and 14 June at 6pm in the St Columba’s Church.
Please keep our candidates in your prayers as they complete their final preparations, including a Retreat Day on Wednesday, 28 May.
St Columba’s Feast Day & Bishop’s Lifelink Celebration
To celebrate St Columba’s Feast Day and the launch of the Bishop’s Lifelink Appeal all students will have the opportunity to wear free dress on Friday, 6 June (Week 8). The Y1-6 classes will begin the day with a St Columba’s Feast Day Liturgy at 9am in the Kalyara Mia.
Students are encouraged to bring in spare change as there will be Mission Game stalls organised by our Year 6 students during the afternoon. This is for the PP-Y5 students to attend, participate and win small prizes. All proceeds will go towards our Lifelink charities.
The LifeLink Foundation was established by Emeritus Archbishop Hickey in 1998.
The Foundation’s current goal is to raise a capital reserve of $10 million which will be prudently and ethically invested ‘to return in perpetuity’ an annual source of operational funding for LifeLink agencies.
On completion, the Foundation will provide LifeLink agencies a guaranteed level of funding and help them continue a tradition of caring for people in need within the Western Australian Community.
We look forward to a great day of celebrating and having fun together.
Canteen cut off time - 8.30 am from Wednesday 28 May
Our canteen is very busy, and we thank families for their ongoing support. With so much to prepare on canteen days, we need to implement an 8:30 am cut-off for QuickCliq orders. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept late orders. The new cut-off time is effective on Wednesday, 28 May.
Did you know you can order ahead on QuickCliq? This handy feature allows families to place orders days - or even weeks - in advance.
Canteen is available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Kindy students are able to order lunch (but not recess).

Hi everyone
I can’t believe we are creeping up to half way for term 2. Time is flying by at a rapid rate!
This week we held our second P&F meeting for the year. I am humbled by how amazing our committee is and the broader St Columbas community in general. Thank you to all those that came along, we got through a lot. Your reps will provide an overview of the evening.
I am pleased to share that the P&F will be contributing to two very important school needs this year. Firstly, we will be contributing some funds to replace the Pre-Primary playgrounds soft fall, which forms part of the strategic plan looking at our school playgrounds. Secondly, we will be purchasing a brand new mega pie warmer for our canteen. With numbers growing, orders are increasing, we need to setup our canteen for success. This is a great result and a good example of how we are making a difference.
Another good example of making a difference is the addition of extra sport uniform days for our children. Thank you to our year 4 parents for the idea, and to Allen and Jesse supporting this idea.
Have a wonderful week everyone and stay warm!
