Ulysses S. Grant Facts!!
Birth and Death Date: Born April 27th, 1822 at Point Pleasant, Ohio and died on July 23, 1885, in Wilton, New York from Esophageal cancer.
Education: For education Grant went to one of the best military school which is West Point in New York.
Early Careers: A career Grant fought in the Mexican war on April 25th, 1846 to 1848. Also he was hired by his brother to be a store clerk for his store, but later fired because his brother called him useless.
Family: Grant married Julia Boggs Dent and soon after had 4 kids Ulysses Jr, Fredrick, Ellen, Jeese which respected their parents.
Civil War: During the Civil War Grant pulled many successes winning the Civil War and the bloody battle of Shiloh and his first lost was in the Civil War at Bull Run which Union lost and Confederate won.
Political: After the war Grant was tired of all the war battles and his boss, president Andrew Johnson so Grant's personal supported for the Republicans policies and put forth in Congress, which President Johnson opposed. Grant opposed the idea of Johnson's which is to rebuild the Confederate area and reintegration.
Importance: To us Grant is important because he lead the Union to victory and after became the 18th president.
Remembrance: Today we know Ulysses Grant because in 1922 after the Lincoln Memorial was built Ulysses National Memorial was built. Also before he died he wrote memoirs which Mark Twain published.
Additional Information: During the war Grant would drink wine and get drunk on sight which some soldiers saw. Grant hated the war uniforms because they were uncomfortable. grant was responsible for disbanding the KKK. Supposedly Grant was in the theater when president Lincoln was shot.
