Your Input is Requested...
As you may know, each year Mark Twain Elementary develops a comprehensive School Improvement Plan. As part of this process, we review program data and survey stakeholders to assess programs and determine target areas. At this time, we are currently planning for the 2023-2024 school year. As part of this process we’d love your input. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked below.
https://forms.gle/FUoHNVW1sLYR99GH7
Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
This survey will close on Friday, Tuesday, February 1st.
KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
February is heart health awareness month and Twain is sponsoring the Kids Heart Challenge. The Kids Heart Challenge delivers activities focused on whole body wellness, helping students improve their own health and better their character while raising life-saving donations for the American Heart Association to help kids facing heart-health issues.
On Monday, January 30th, we will have an all-school assembly to kick off the Kids for Heart fundraiser. The fundraiser will start on this day. Look for more information in the flyers coming home.

KEEPING THE FOCUS ON LEARNING
Please know that at Twain we work hard to teach our students responsibility. In order to keep the focus on learning and avoid classroom disruptions, we no longer allow students to call home for the following items:
Backpacks, gym shoes, water bottles, ipads, chargers, snacks, library books and instruments.
Should a student forget homework or backpacks, we can provide them with additional copies of assignments, or the work may be turned in the next day. Library books may also be turned in the next day. We have extra iPads and chargers for those in need. Filtered water is available for all students from our fountain. In addition, alternative activities are available for those without band instruments or gym shoes. We hope that by limiting these calls, our parents, guardians and students will better be able to focus on their day.
Also, in an effort to maximize learning, please know that if you are picking your child up early, we will call students down to the office once you arrive. This ensures your student's continuation of learning if you are delayed for any reason.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding!
THE SNOW IS HERE!
The snow has arrived, which is great fun for the kids at recess! This means students will need proper snow gear to be permitted to play in the snow at recess. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather and with boots and snow pants each day.
In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum. All items that have a name on them will be returned the same day they are lost.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Band Concert
As you know, our recent band concert was canceled due to inclement weather. Once the date has been rescheduled we will follow up with all families.
6th-Grade Parents Night at RMS
Richards Middle School would like to invite you and your 6th-grade child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, the programs offered, and the selective classes available to them. We will also provide our students with a tour of our building’s selective classrooms.
The program will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents are to report to the RMS gym, where they will meet the administrators, counselors, and academic department heads. Students will gather in the cafeteria, where their tour will begin.
Our goal is to provide you and your child with a good understanding of our vision and mission at Richards Middle School.
Our RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February 27th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, March 1st to assist students in filling out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade teacher no later than March 5th.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools beginning March 6th and March 8th.
Do you have a student entering school in the Fall 2023?
Join us for our Elementary Open House on February 8th!
