1st Quarter is Almost Over
It's hard to believe but the first quarter of the 24-25 school year ends next Friday November 1st! This would be a great weekend for families to review their child's Canvas grades, and make or follow a plan to finish the quarter strong. Many teachers have set a final due date of Thursday October 31st...just one week away, or sooner. Let's encourage our students to show their BARK responsibility and do their best!
Spirit Week is Next Week
Next week is Spirit Week at Ordean East! Student Council has put together an awesome line-up of dress up themes for the week. See below for additional information. Start getting your outfits ready!
What is Advisory?
This year, every student at Ordean East is assigned to an Advisory class. Advisory meets Wednesdays and Thursdays for 32 minutes and is a time for students to intentionally build connections with their advisor and classmates. According to AMLE (The Association for Middle Level Education), Advisory is βRegularly scheduled time[s] when young adolescents have the opportunity to interact with a small group of peers and a teacher-advisory to discuss school and personal concerns.β
So far this year we have done A LOT during our Advisory periods. Students begin with a grounding quote, then greet each other, check-in with a "question of the day", and play a game tied to the monthly theme. October's theme is "Respectful Communication." Students learn and practice our PBIS BARK expectations and how to apply them during the activities.
Below you will see a few photos from Ms. Paschen and Mr. Muellenbach's advisory playing the communication exercise called "Human Knot." Students had to effectively communicate with one another to "untangle" themselves. Ask your child what they've been up to in their Advisory classroom!

Mock Election @ OEMS - Update
OEMS will be participating in a Mock Election on November 5th. Students will learn what a ballot looks like, how you vote, what offices are up for election, what a polling place looks like, and more.
We are looking for volunteers to be "Election Judges" on election day at Ordean. More instructions would be given once volunteers are signed up and on the day of. Link to the volunteer sign up.
From the Secretary of State's website: "Young people who learn the mechanics of voting (the how-to) are more likely to vote the first time they are eligible." LINK
We understand that many families have a busy schedule on election day, but we would appreciate an hour or two of your time to volunteer at our school.
If you have any questions please reach out to Dani Vang (danielle.vang@isd709.org).
PTA Request
Let's help keep our teachers in supply with spare school essentials for our students (think: replacement pencils) and stock up on cleaning supplies and tissues as we are in the throes of the cold season. Donations can be delivered anytime to the school office, ATTN: Katie Latscher. Thank you!

Act Responsibly.
What advice do you have for middle school students to help them be awesome humans?
Embrace your interests. Try new things. You have lots of awesome opportunities here.
