HAPPENINGS AROUND HOMESTEAD
FALL CLUBS
RUNNING CLUB
Running club started this week and students showed up to run! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders rocked Wednesday while 4th, 5th, and 6th crushed Thursday. Huge thanks to Coach Payne for sponsoring this amazing club and all the volunteers who made running club possible.
It's not too late to join - please email Coach Payne or call the front office.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Flag Football starts Monday, September 12, 2022 for 5th and 6th graders.
Information:
Our non-contact flag football is for both boys and girls in the 5th and 6th grade. We learn the basic skills and strategies of flag football while playing under modified rules.
I ask for a $5 donation for each sport your child participates in here at Homestead to help the Physical Education department raise money for equipment, technology, and guest presenters for the school. Thank you for your support.
Volunteers are welcome. Please contact me if you can help at practices.
Practice is held on the field next to the playground and will end at 4:30. Every year I have players who are doing CYSA Flag Football as well as tackle football. Students can participate in all of these groups at the same time since we don't require a big time commitment. Most of practice is playing the game to get ready to play other schools during the Jamborees.
CHOIR
Choir with Mrs. Johnston kicks off next Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 8:00 a.m in the Music Room. There is still time to get permission slips in. All 5th and 6th graders are welcome. No auditions required and there is no participation fee.
PTO
GENERAL MEETING
The PTO general meeting was held on Thursday and PTO is excited to announce all the fun in store for this year. We are blessed as Jenny Kosin was voted in as the 2022/2023 President. PTO started planning the Fall Carnival, popcorn Fridays, I-Did-A-Read, Spring Book Fair, STEM Fair, and the Spring Fundraiser.
The Fall Book Fair was a success and PTO was able to fill $350 in teacher classroom wishlists, donate $315 to the Battle of the Books, and make book donations to volunteers.

KAITLIN LENOIR
OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR
Mrs. Lenoir received her Outstanding Educator Award from the Anchorage Education Association on Thursday. She originally received this award during the 21/22 school year but the presentation was put off until just now. We are extremely lucky to have Mrs. Lenoir at Homestead and are so grateful for all the effort she puts in to assure every student at Homestead is involved and feels welcome.
HEALTHY FUTURES
COACH PAYNE
Homestead participates in the Healthy Futures program. It is optional but if you choose your child can complete an activity Log each month for a small prize. Return the complete logs to Coach Payne at the end of the month. Linked is the website where you can find out about Healthy Futures and also linked is where you can print out an activity log. Logs are also available on the gym doors.
