A NOTE FROM MR. LEONARD
Dear Sun Path Families,
It is hard to believe that we are starting the month of May. Where has this year gone? Even though we are getting close to the end of the school year, we still have a lot of learning to do together. The month of May is always a fun time of the year.
As we look toward the end of the year, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have your child here at school and on time. This is important as we continue to prepare your child for next year and help them reach their potential.
Please review this newsletter for all the important information for the next month and the end of the school year.
Thank you for your continued support!
Take Care,
Patrick Leonard

Here are some reminders as you prepare to come and enjoy Track and Field Day with staff, your child and their class:
- Parents and family can report directly to the track and field area adjacent to the playground located in the lower level parking lot. You do not need to check in the office before the event.
- Classes are still in session during track and field day so family and siblings will need to stay off the playground during scheduled recess times. The playground will be open for play after dismissal at 3:55pm
- It will be a beautiful sunny day so please apply sunscreen to your child before school, if needed.
- Please refrain from bringing dogs or other pets
We encourage children to stay until the end of the day but if you choose to take your child after the event, please follow these steps:
1. Students will stay with their class and return to their classroom with their teacher
2. Parents will go to the office – entering through the upper level parking lot through the outside office doors – to check out their child
3. Office staff will verify authorized persons for pick up and call your child up to the office for dismissal

Community Conversation/Survey Now Open
To keep a continuous dialogue and feedback loop within the Shakopee Public Schools community, a 2025 community conversation/survey will be available Thursday, May 1, 2025 through Friday, May 23, 2025.
All district families, taxpayers, businesses and community members are encouraged to participate. Staff and secondary students are also welcome to share their thoughts.
Similar to past district feedback opportunities, the conversation will help define areas of growth and improvement alongside the district's vision, mission and overall priorities.
ThoughtExchange, the survey platform, offers two-way engagement and transparency where participants can view and rank others' thoughts during the survey period. Responses are anonymous, but feedback is available to the public.
Feedback will be presented to the Shakopee School Board in June 2025.

🐾 Monthly Character Theme - Individuality 🐾
Monthly Character Education Theme: Individuality
Each month, students at all grade levels will be learning more about a specific positive character trait. They will read a book with their class and do an activity related to this theme. Individual classrooms may also expand upon this theme on their own. All character education themes will tie back to our school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) expectations of being Respectful, Responsible, Positive, and Safe.
For the month of May, our theme is Individuality. Students will learn how to recognize their own unique qualities and differences. They will also discuss the value of individuality, rather than everyone trying to dress, look, and act the same.
We encourage you to talk more with your child about this month’s theme of Individuality. Below are some ideas for ways to continue this learning at home:
- Help your child identify their unique qualities by starting to point out their good qualities, and coaching them to do the same to others. You can also model this skill by verbalizing the things you love about yourself as an adult!
- Go around the dinner table and ask each person to share two things they love about themselves.
- Engage your child in an age-appropriate discussion about the value of being yourself, rather than trying to be like someone else.
If you have any additional questions about our character education programming, you can reach out to Tammy Doyle, dean of students (952-496-5899, tdoyle@shakopee.k12.mn.us) or Stephanie St Peter, school psychologist (952-496-5812, sstpeter@shakopee.k12.mn.us)

From Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
The PTO would like to thank all of the Sun Path families who came out to our dance on April 11. We had such a great time at our glow party and hope you did, too! We want to thank all of the people who made the night possible, especially our incredible committee of parent volunteers, and those who volunteered to work at the event.
Wie also want to thank those that supported our Culver’s fundraiser on April 21 and those who volunteered to help us run food. We always appreciate our events with Culver’s; they are a great community partner.
Though it seems impossible to think about, the end of the school year is fast approaching. We hope you have plans to join us at our epic End-of-Year celebration on Wednesday, May 28. There will be bounce houses, food trucks and lots of fun for the entire family. Help us commemorate another amazing year at Sun Path!
We are so appreciative for all the parents, families, teachers and staff who have supported our activities and events over this year. We can’t do what we do without you. Thanks for helping us make Sun Path shine!
As always, reach out any time on Facebook or email us at sunpathpto@hotmail.com.

Upcoming Informances
Mark your calendars! Our Sun Path music classes are beginning to prepare for our annual “informances!” Informances are more intimate performances that take place during your child’s music class period. We invite all families to attend!
- Third Grade and fifth Grade (including Band) will take place in mid-May
All performances will take place in their music classroom, Room 129. For families unable to attend our class concert, the music staff will create a recording and will send it out to families via Seesaw. Below is some information that will help guide you through your time at Sun Path.
Visitor Information for the Performance: Please enter through the main office doors. All visitors must check in at the office and receive a visitor badge, which must be worn at all times. If arriving early, please wait in the office area until just before the performance to allow students time to prepare.
- Students will remain in the classroom until the end of that class. Parents will go directly to the office to wait for specials to conclude.
- Sign your child out at the office. The office will call your child's classroom for dismissal.
- If possible, inform the office and your child's teacher in advance so they can prepare for a prompt departure.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Isles at misles@shakopee.k12.mn.us or Mrs. Lake at blake@shakopee.k12.mn.us. We are excited to share and show off our musical journey and skills to audiences like you!
