Mānawatia a Matariki
As we wrap up another busy term, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the fantastic things we've achieved together. A huge thank you to our amazing staff, supportive whānau, FOSTA and of course, our hardworking students who make our school community so special.
Mid-year reports are due out at the end of the week, so keep an eye out for those on Hero. It's a great opportunity to celebrate the progress and hard work of our tamariki.
We have some exciting events coming up this week. Tuesday is our end-of-term Mass, where we will be celebrating baptisms and first reconciliation. The Matariki Disco is on Thursday, so get ready to dance the night away! And don't forget, Friday is YCC Day, a non-uniform day with a gold coin donation.
We also have a bittersweet farewell to say to Rose, our wonderful teacher aide. While we will miss her dearly, we are so grateful for her dedication and endless positive energy. Thank you, Rose, for everything you've done for us and we wish you luck on your new journey in Masterton.
Finally, don't forget to book into the Holiday Hub Club for some exciting activities during the break. Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable holiday!
Ngā mihi nui,

Matariki
What a wonderful week we've had celebrating Matariki at our school!
Celebrations began on Thursday with a morning full of Matariki-inspired activities. Students engaged in creative and educational experiences that helped them connect with the meaning of Matariki. We then shared some delicious kai, fostering a strong sense of whanaungatanga.
Our junior students had a special treat as they participated in the National Library's "Bringing the Stars to Life" at Anzac Hall. A huge thank you to Tanja for supporting this event for our Featherston schools, helping to bring the stories and significance of Matariki to life for our tamariki.
Early on Friday morning, community members prepared the hangi pit on the school field. Our students, along with other Featherston schools, performed kapa haka to open the festivities at Anzac Hall. Their performance was amazing!
Our senior students created a stunning harakeke bouquet, which was laid at the ceremony in the cemetery. This act of remembrance and respect was a poignant way to honour those who have passed.
Looking ahead, our senior students will be planting at Donald's Creek tomorrow. This activity is a wonderful way to give back to our environment and symbolises our hope for a prosperous future.
The community spirit throughout these celebrations has been truly heartwarming. Matariki is a special time for all of us to come together, reflect on the past, and look forward to the future. We are incredibly proud of how our school and wider Paetūmokai community has embraced and celebrated this important occasion.
Playground Opening
On June 18th we celebrated the grand opening of our new playground! The day began with a blessing ceremony led by Fr Dennis Nacorda, Matua Wiremu Dawson, and Whaea Sandy Ngamoki, accompanied by a beautiful waiata and the school pepeha song.
Sian Harcourt, Presiding Member of the Board, and Mayor Martin Connelly delivered heartfelt speeches. The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured the school's oldest student, Monty Tahinurua Turner, and the youngest, Ida Portales, on her first day of school!
A huge thanks to the Friends of St Teresa's (FOSTA) for their outstanding fundraising efforts, the school's staff and whānau, the Featherston community, and local businesses for their support. Special gratitude goes to grant providers Eastern & Central Community Trust, Trust House, and Pub Charities.
The new playground is a testament to our community's dedication and collaboration, promising endless fun and positive impact for our students.
Sports
Netball
Last week, we attended the South Wairarapa Netball Tournament. This year we had three teams attending from Remutaka and Takitimu classes. The teams all faced some tough competition, but played well. We are always so proud to see their fair play and kindness shining through. A huge thank you to Koran, Bridget and Amanda for supporting our teams on the day.
Wairarapa Cross Country
A group of students attended the Wairarapa Cross Country after placing in the top ten at our cluster cross country. Despite the tricky weather and lots of mud, all of our students finished their races well, running with determination and pride. A huge congratulations to Flynn and Neo who are going on to the regional cross country in a couple of weeks. A big thank you to our parent helpers who transported students and helped supervise on the day. We could not do these events without your support, so thank you Bex, Thomas, Callum and Amanda.
Catholic Social Teaching
In our classes we are meeting Mannie the deer, teaching us about Human Dignity.
“The Catholic social teaching principle of human dignity is about understanding that each of us is made in God’s image. Every person has an innate human dignity no one can take away.”
(Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand)
On Friday we will be joining in the Caritas YCC day and wearing non-uniform. Please bring a gold coin donation to raise funds for Holy Trinity Catholic School in Papua New Guinea.
