Principal's Message
Dear Cavalier Families,
Happy New Year and welcome to Semester 2! I hope everyone had a restful break with lots of memories made. Students are still on Winter Break until Monday, January 13. School will resume on Tuesday, January 14. (There will be no zero period. Zero period will start on Wednesday.) Tuesday will be a regular day, Schedule A.
Upon entering school on Tuesday morning, students will report to the lunch area and find their names on posters. The posters will list the Advisory class students should report to. Student schedules will be given out at the Advisory class. Students should show their schedule to every teacher to get it initialed.
Please be aware that students may have changes to their schedule as teachers have made some recommendations for placement for Semester 2. In addition, classes will need to have balanced numbers by the tenth day of school per teacher contract.
School will be closed next Monday, January 20 in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. As you know, Dr. King was a renown activist for equality. As a civil rights activist, Dr. King worked tirelessly to fight for the right of a quality education for every child. A major goal of our school is to get students to grade level in reading and writing. When students cannot read or write well, they are at a huge disadvantage in their learning journey. Many of our students can increase their reading skills just by reading more. Encourage your student to visit the library and check out reading material based on their interest. I also encourage families to go visit our well-stocked public library on F Street. Check out a novel, a magazine, a comic-book, a manga, an almanac, whatever you like... let's get reading!
This week's announcements:- Students will take the Achieve3000 Level Set Test on Thursday and Friday in English classes. This is important data to record improvement in reading levels. Students should take their time and do their best on the test.
- There will be a School Site Council meeting next Tuesday at 3:20 online or in room 104 in the main office. Here is the meeting link.
Continuing announcements:
- All students and parents have the unique opportunity to receive individual and family therapy sessions at no cost through the Center of Mindful Relationships. If any student is interested in this, please fill out this form or scan the QR code on the flyer listed below.
- Parents can register their students for Club TC on the school website or through the QR code below. The Club TC office is in Room 215, close to the white G street gate. Those arriving early must enter through the gate. After school dismissal is also through the white G street gate. Once students exit the Auditorium gate at 3:10 pm they are not allowed to enter back for Club TC.
