Tumuaki Korero
Kia ora e te whānau,
This term has seen an increase in sickness, especially the flu and covid. This has impacted our staff and although we are working very hard to cover any staffing absences, there is currently very limited reliever availability across Marlborough. We will do all we can to keep classes operating as normal. If staffing levels are unsafe, we will need to move to home learning. While this is the last resort, it is something that may happen. Please as always, if your child is unwell, keep them at home.
Our year 4-6 students recently participated in Road Patrol Training with Constable Charlotte. It is so great to see our students stepping up into these leadership roles. One thing Constable Charlotte noticed is the number of children traveling to school in cars, without seatbelts or booster seats. A reminder for whanau bringing their children to school by car, all children must be in an approved child restraint until they're seven years old, but to reduce the risk of injury it's recommended they remain in a booster seat until they can safely fit a vehicle seat and seat belt. Many children need a booster until they're around 12 years old.
You will be aware that the Government has announced the introduction of structured Literacy and Mathematics. We currently have all staff either trained or undergoing Professional Development in Structured Literacy. We are still waiting to find out what the Structured Maths will look like but be assured that our amazing teachers have strong numeracy and literacy programmes in place that are tailored to meet the needs of all our tamariki, whilst ensuring we meet the requirements of an hour of reading, writing and mathematics . At Spring Creek School we have our children at the heart of everything we do, this includes supporting school readiness, emotional and social learning as well as valuing each child for their strengths and supporting them to find their identity and value so that they are reading and willing to take on the challenges of learning. To support this, please encourage your child to manage their belongings by carrying their own school bag, unpacking it etc.
In week 6 of this term, all our tamariki will have the opportunity to participate in Dance Curriculum. This is an amazing experience that all our students have enjoyed over the years. This helps to build creativity, confidence whilst learning movement and rhythm whilst having a great time with lots of laughter.
We would like to thank all our whānau for their support to make Spring Creek School the special little kura it is. If you would like to get involved, please pop in and say hi. We will be having an open whanau afternoon soon for you to come in and have a cuppa, a chat, share some kai and see what amazing things are happening.
Me mahi tahi tātau mō te oranga o te katoa.
Working together for all to succeed, nobody is left behind.
Have a lovely rest of the week.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Cheryl Alderlieste
