AUSD CONNECTION
NEWS FROM ALHAMBRA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Message from the Superintendent
Dear AUSD Community,
As we welcome the start of summer, I want to take a moment to reflect on the joy and pride we’ve experienced these past few weeks. From the promotions of our eighth graders, Moor Field preschoolers, and our LIFT students to our high school graduation ceremonies at East LA College, it has been a true celebration of growth, perseverance, and achievement. Congratulations again to all our students and families for these milestone achievements, and thank you to our amazing school administrators, staff members, and parents for putting together such beautiful and meaningful ceremonies!
While the school year may be over, learning continues across the district through our exciting summer programs. Classrooms are filled with energy and curiosity as students engage in academic enrichment and hands-on exploration. We are so grateful for the dedicated staff who continue to inspire and support our learners during these important summer weeks.
As we begin preparing for the 2025–2026 school year, we encourage families to take a few minutes to log into the AUSD Parent Portal and update contact information, emergency contacts, and any other important details. Keeping your information current helps ensure a smooth start to the new school year and allows us to stay connected with you.
I hope all of you are enjoying a safe, restful, and memorable summer.
Warm Regards,
Denise R. Jaramillo, Ed.D.
Superintendent

A fence screen was installed in front of the kindergarten playground at Ramona School. The screen provides safety and security, and encourages school spirit for our students.
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) was installed in the cafeteria at Brightwood School. LVT is highly durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic, making it ideal for high-traffic areas like the cafeteria.
LITTLE BITS OF GOOD NEWS & INFORMATION FROM AROUND THE DISTRICT
(Visit our social media platforms to see additional photos of many of these events/activities.)
A delegation of eight AUSD educators recently completed a visit to South Korea. This is the second time we have had an opportunity to have AUSD teachers participate in this global exchange program. Amy Hughson, Judy Hui, Kym Feidler, Maria Rubalcava, Dr. Leann Huang, Christina Loose, Lindsay Gilbert, and Gabriel Jimenez spent time learning about the South Korean education system, teaching elementary and high school classes, and immersing themselves in local history and culture. A highlight was dressing in traditional hanbok and touring Gyeongbok Palace. Learn more about their adventure by visiting the district's social media platforms (@AlhambraUSD).
Congratulations to recent MKHS graduate Ada Chang, who was recognized with a well-deserved scholarship at the Chinese American Education Association’s (CAEA) 46th Annual Scholarship Awards and Fundraising Banquet. The event also celebrated the contributions of former AUSD Board Member Dr. Sophie Wong, who received the CAEA Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of public service. Our board, cabinet, and SAC members had a great time joining in with the festivities and celebrating the evening's honorees.
Brightwood School won this year’s Science Field Day! Hosted by MKHS, this event features STEM competitions for 6th -8th grade students from AUSD and the San Gabriel Valley. Thank you to all the AUSD schools that competed, and congratulations to Brightwood Science Teams for winning first place. (In March, two Brightwood middle school teams also competed at the 2025 Science Olympiad Tournament (Los Angeles Regional Division B - Middle School). They placed 7th overall at the school level and won 10 medals across multiple events. Congratulations, Bengals!
On May 19th, Fremont School celebrated their Spanish Dual Immersion students in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade, honoring them at their Pathway to Biliteracy ceremony. With music, performances, and plenty of pride, these scholars are on their way to becoming fully bilingual...and if they continue on this path, they’ll earn the State Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas! Felicidades to the 8th graders who are the first group to complete the full Dual Immersion Spanish cycle in AUSD! (Photos credit: AUSD Communications Intern Patience Doan)
AUSD proudly showcased the incredible talents of our student musicians at their annual Spring Concert, held at Alhambra High School. The performances featured, the Middle School Honor String Orchestra, Middle School Honor Band, Combined Orchestra and Alhambra High School Jazz Band. The night was filled with beautiful harmonies, jazzy rhythms, and a shared love of music. Bravo to all our performers, music directors, and families who came out to support the arts! At Congressmember Judy Chu's 16th Congressional Art Competition celebration, AHS Senior Jacky Xing earned a Top 10 finalist spot and an honorable mention for his emotionally moving photo of wildfire recovery efforts in Altadena. The judges praised his technical skill, use of light, and heartfelt storytelling. Fellow AHS senior Mia Reyes Salguero opened the event with a stunning National Anthem performance, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening celebrating student creativity. The beautiful art gallery at the event featured artwork from many other talented AUSD students and alumni.
Spring Musical: 101 Dalmatians KIDS
Garfield School’s production of 101 Dalmatians KIDS was a hit! The talented student performers lit up the stage with energy, heart, and plenty of puppy power. From the colorful costumes to the catchy songs, every moment was filled with creativity and joy. A big round of applause to the cast, crew, and staff who made this magical performance possible. A huge thank you to the families and community for supporting the arts at Garfield! (Photo credit: AUSD Communications Intern Patience Doan)

Student Advisory Council
At the May 20, 2025 Board of Education Meeting, the Board recognized the 12 members of the 2024-2025 Student Advisory Council (SAC). Each member of SAC was presented with certificates of recognition from AUSD and many other elected officials. The SAC members shared what they accomplished this year and what will be continued through next year's SAC.
SAC does a lot of important, serious work, but they also have a lot of fun together. This is a video recap of some of the fun they had this past year (put together by MKHS sophomore and two-time SAC member, Angelina Yip). Thank you to Angelina for this video, and congratulations to all our Student Advisory Council members for an incredible year!

Central Production Kitchen Tour - Emery Park & Granada Schools
In May, Emiline Proud's 3rd/4th class from Granada and Samantha Hong's 7th grade class from Emery Park were invited to tour AUSD's Central Production Kitchen. The students were given a behind-the-scenes tour, learning about the different steps from deliveries all the way to preparing each meal served to each elementary and high school. They also learned about the different food groups and what goes into the planning of each meal. During their tour, they experienced what it was like to work in the central kitchen by preparing their own school lunch, which consisted of orange chicken, rice & broccoli bowls, and individual salads. Thank you, Food and Nutrition Services, for making this wonderful field trip possible.
