Multiage Classes Informational Meeting
Woods Creek School currently provides two academic settings for students in first, second, fourth, and fifth grades. We offer traditional classrooms that have students of the same grade level and we offer multiage classrooms that place students from two grade levels (1st & 2nd, 4th & 5th) together in one academic setting. Each spring we host a parent meeting to share information about the multiage classroom structure at Woods Creek. We will present information and several multiage teachers will be present to answer questions. Our meeting will be held on Thursday May 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the learning center. The meeting is typically geared toward kindergarten and third grade parents since students can be placed in multiage rooms at the beginning of first grade and fourth grade. We fill our traditional classrooms and multiage classrooms on a first come, first serve basis. Sign up will be available via a Google form beginning on Friday, May 3 for parents who wish to request a specific classroom setting for their child. The Google form will be emailed to kindergarten and third grade parents. If you do not express a preference for a traditional classroom or a multiage classroom, we will assume that either placement is acceptable for your student. We feel either academic setting meets the high expectations for student achievement that we have established at Woods Creek. Information was emailed to Kindergarten and 3rd grade parents on April 3 and the information is shared here, as well.

Save the date: Kindergarten Kickoff for 2024-2025 Registered Kindergarteners
All registered kindergarten students who will be attending Woods Creek School in the fall are invited to our “Kindergarten Kickoff” on Friday, May 10, 2024. This special event is for both incoming kindergarten students and their parents. The students will have the opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom with our teachers while the parents listen to a brief presentation about the kindergarten school day and school routines from Dr. Marks in the school cafeteria. Classrooms will not be open for parent visitation. Two sessions are available, one is at 9:30 a.m. and one is at 2:00 p.m. Please enter through the gym foyer doors on the east end of the building.
April SEL Focus
In April, our Social Emotional Learning theme of the month is Integrity. Students in K-5 will be learning that Integrity means acting in a way you know to be right and kind in all situations. The Integrity unit lessons will be broken down into three skills: honesty, courage and perseverance. Through these lessons, students will learn about the importance of being honest, having courage, and showing perseverance through life's challenges. Students will practice problem solving by role playing different scenarios and moral dilemmas. Students will work together to analyze and discuss potential ways to solve a given scenario. Students will then evaluate how their decisions could lead to various possible outcomes, both negative and positive.
Olympic Day Lunch Information
This year, Woods Creek will provide a sack lunch for every student on Olympic Day, May 17, 2024. The lunch will contain a sub sandwich (salami, turkey, ham and cheese), baby carrots, fruit, Rice Krispies Treat, 100% fruit juice, and milk. Menu substitutions cannot be accommodated.
If you DO NOT wish for your child(ren) to enjoy the lunch provided, please opt out on this Google form by April 30 and send lunch to school with your child(ren) on May 17.
If your child(ren) will enjoy the lunch provided, no action is necessary-do not complete the form. A sack lunch will be provided for your child(ren).
Crystal Lake Police Department Safety Presentations
We are excited to announce a new collaboration with the Crystal Lake Police Department. Starting April 15th, Crystal Lake Community Resource Officer Kristiana Stolzman will be visiting each District 47 school to deliver important safety presentations. These age-appropriate presentations will address crucial topics such as automobile and bike safety, home safety practices including secure gun storage, and community safety measures including abduction awareness. Scheduled between April 15 and May 3, these assemblies aim to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to navigate potential risks responsibly and were created based on the instructional mandates from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and are mandatory with no option for opting out, as per state requirements. Presentations have been tailored to ensure each grade receives content suitable for their age group.
Multicultural Literacy Night
On April 10, BPAC is hosting a Multicultural Literacy Night to honor and celebrate the diversity in our school district. Multicultural Literacy Night is an opportunity for our multilingual students, families, faculty, and staff to experience many diverse countries, cultures, and traditions through the lens of literacy.
