St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 6 | 23 MAY 2024
“Holy Father, God of Love, You are the creator of this land and of all good things.
We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history and the suffering of our peoples –
especially the grief of those who were taken as children from their homes and families,
taken from all they knew and loved. We ask your forgiveness. Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers
Our Year 6 students celebrated their Confirmation last Saturday evening. They are to be congratulated on the way they participated in the Mass and Confirmation. The students were a credit to the school and parish. Many thanks to Mrs Daniele, Mrs O’Brien, Mrs Vuckovic and Mr Yock for having them so well prepared. We also thank Mrs McDonald and the student choir for their wonderful singing and all of the staff who provided help before and during the Mass. It was also a very special occasion for Monsignor, as it was the last Sacrament that he will celebrate for the Parish, as he is retiring at the end of June.
Tomorrow we will be celebrating National Sorry day with a special assembly. Parents and Carers are invited to attend if they wish.
The school will be participating in a Quality Catholic Education School Review on July 23 and 24 of Term 3. The Quality Catholic Education School Review (QCESR) provides an opportunity for a panel of educators, external to the school, to affirm and report on the improvement journey of the school. The QCESR focuses on the school improvement context measuring the effectiveness of the school’s self-review, the impact of a school’s engagement with self-review, and the future directions for the improvement of student outcomes that the school has identified. As part of the process the panel will meet with the Principal, Leadership Group, a selection of staff, a selection of students, Parish Priest and nominees from the Catholic School Advisory Council and P&F group.
A reminder that Friday, 31 May is a pupil free day.
God Bless and keep safe
Allen McMahon
Principal

National Reconciliation Week 2024
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2024 is Now More Than Ever.
The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.
For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, act today for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.
National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
St Columba’s Feast Day & Bishop’s Lifelink Celebration
To celebrate St Columba’s Feast Day and the launch of the Bishop’s Lifelink Appeal all students will have the opportunity to wear free dress on Friday, 7 June (Week 8). The Y1-6 classes will begin the day with a St Columba’s Feast Day Mass at 9am in the Church.
Students are encouraged to bring in spare change as there will be Mission Game stalls organised by our Year 6 students during the afternoon. This is for the PP-Y5 students to attend, participate and win small prizes. All proceeds will go towards our Lifelink charities.
The LifeLink Foundation was established by Emeritus Archbishop Hickey in 1998.
The Foundation’s current goal is to raise a capital reserve of $10 million which will be prudently and ethically invested ‘to return in perpetuity’ an annual source of operational funding for LifeLink agencies.
On completion, the Foundation will provide LifeLink agencies a guaranteed level of funding and help them continue a tradition of caring for people in need within the Western Australian Community.
We look forward to a great day of celebrating and having fun together.
Confirmation Mass
Congratulations to our Year 6 candidates who made their Confirmation last weekend. They have now been strengthened by the Holy Spirit to use their gifts in the service of others.
Professional photos taken on the night will be made available for purchase from MSP Photography soon.

Jump Rope for Heart 2024 Finishes
The end of Week 7 (Thursday, 30 May) means the conclusion of Jump Rope for Heart this year – a fantastic fundraising and physical activity program by the Heart Foundation.
By participating in Jump Rope for Heart this term, we have encouraged our students to get moving. We’ve had ropes available on the school grounds and encouraged all classes to help raise funds for lifesaving research and support programs.
Please note that while the students earn prizes for the funds raised all prizes will be collected by the school and donated to Mini Vinnies next term to support disadvantaged children.
Over the term your child has learnt new skills, increased their physical activity, and learn about heart health.
Thank you for your participation in the program for 2024.
