Summer Peach Sale
Remember our Spring Fruit Sale? As of May 5th Pope County 4-H has a summer version, a peach sale! Participate in this fundraiser to support the program and provide a new opportunity for the pope county community! Check out the Summer Peach Sale Letter for details.
Leadership Opportunities at the Fair
Again this year youth in grades 6+ have the amazing opportunity to be a Junior Superintendent. This application is due May 12th, youth in all livestock species select a species they would like to learn more about and gain leadership skills with during the County Fair Season (youth should not select the primary species they show). New this year is a Junior General Project Facilitator for all youth in grades 6+. This application is due May 28th and is a leadership position dedicated to the 4-H building and all general projects, this is an incredible opportunity for youth who may not show animals, or even for those who do!
FLOP into Success this Summer!
I want to take a moment to celebrate our FLOP Ambassadors, but also the youth who have taken the leadership role of being a Camp Counselor this summer. Whether leading the local program in decision-making, community service, and fun throughout the year or taking on a high-energy environment like camp, Pope County 4-H has some amazing leaders to celebrate!
In celebration of our summer leaders,

Help us welcome Pope County's 4-H Summer Intern!
Hello everyone, my name is Serena Schaefer and I will be returning as the summer intern for Pope County 4-H! I graduated from Hancock High School in 2022, and I just completed my 3rd year at South Dakota State University majoring in Animal Science Production Management with a minor in Dairy Industry. I showed in 4-H from Kindergarten through my 13th year in Stevens County, and I showed every species but sheep, horse, llama and dog. I own a small dairy herd in Swift County on my family farm with my sister, who is a senior at Morris Area High School this year. During my free time, I enjoy crocheting, watching movies, travelling, playing video games, spending time with my family, friends, and animals, and trying new things and experiences.
A fun fact about me is that I am in my university’s marching band and pep band! In my time with the marching band, I have travelled to New York City for the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and to Frisco, Texas in 2023 and 2024 for the NCAA FCS Football National Championships. In pep band, I have had the opportunity to travel to Omaha, Nebraska in 2024 and Storrs, Connecticut this past March. Both of these opportunities were for the NCAA Basketball Tournaments where the band joined our school’s Men’s (2024) and Women’s (2025) Basketball teams in their time in the tournament. Go Jacks!
