First Semester Roll Students
A big congratulations to all of the students who have achieved the honor roll for the first semester! Your hard work and dedication are truly commendable. Keep up the great work and continue striving for excellence!
Picture Day: January 21 and 22, 2025
Lifetouch will be in Galena on the 21st and 22nd of this month. Most of the Sidney C. Huntington High School high school students who have classes on the GILA campus will have their pictures taken on the 21st on that campus. Elementary, middle school, and high school students who are on the SHS campus in the morning will have their pictures taken on the 22nd in the small gym. Flyers with pricing information have been sent home with elementary students, and additional forms can be found in the high school office.
Elementary Acceleration Program
The After School Acceleration Program will begin on January 13th, from 3:00 to 4:00. The program will run from Monday to Thursday each week. Students will earn points for attending which will earn them prizes, treats, and even fun events like movie nights! If you have not done so already, please contact the office to inform us if your child will be staying after school for the program, and to help us determine where your child will go afterward.
Junior NYO
Elementary NYO is being offered for grades Kindergarten through 6th, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, starting January 6th and running through February 12th, with an NYO Showcase on February 14th.
The practice schedule is as follows:
- Monday: Grades 4th to 6th
- Tuesday: Grades Kindergarten to 2nd
- Wednesday: Grades Kindergarten to 6th
ANSEP Applications
ANSEP applications are being accepted for current 6th to 8th grade students who have not previously attended the program. Being accepted into this program opens up opportunities for other summer camps, college credits, and scholarships. If you're interested in having your child participate, please contact Wanda Wright for the application process if your child does not already have one. Applications are due January 24.
T-shirts and Sweatshirts for Sale
We will be selling the new T-shirts and sweatshirts during basketball home games, or you can stop by during the school day. T-shirts are $15, sweatshirts are $35, and we also have toddler sweatshirts available for $20. We can accept cash or checks made out to Galena City School District.
Basketball Season is upon us
Basketball season is upon us, and our Hawks team will be on the court weekly, with the first home games taking place on January 23rd and 24th. All home games will be streamed on the NFHS Network for those unable to attend in person. Early Childhood Family Night
Parents and students in our Early Childhood Program (Enaa Neenyo, Pre-K 3, and Pre-K 4) are invited to a Family Activity Night on January 22, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 in the SHS little gym. Snacks will be provided, and a bounce house will be available for the kids. We will also offer the opportunity to sign up for free books to be sent to your home and other door prizes. We hope to see you there!
