Dear PfISD Staff,

Last night, Pflugerville ISD’s Board of Trustees voted to amend the academic calendar and reviewed the phase-in plan for returning to on-campus learning.

PfISD will extend its 100% virtual online learning through the fourth full week of class Sept. 10 and has moved a professional development day in March to Friday, Sept. 11. This will give students that day off and the first possible day for on-campus learning will now be Monday, Sept. 14.

All staff members will return to standard working hours 100% of the time starting on Friday, Sept. 11. EDP will be open through Sept. 11 for childcare. Additionally, any staff members who do not have available childcare on Sept. 11 are allowed to bring their children to work for that day.

The only exception to the 100% return are those employees who have received approval for remote working through ADA (Americans with Disability Act) or AWA (Alternative Worksite Arrangement) via the Human Resources Department, and they will receive additional communications.

In preparation for on-campus learning, PfISD will implement a phase-in model. Campuses can have up to 25% of the students who opted for on-campus learning attend school. Some campuses have more than 25% of their students who want to return to campus. For these campuses, the district has identified several student characteristics that will be prioritized when making decisions about which students will be included in the 25%.

The children of staff members will be prioritized. If you are a PfISD staff member and your student attends a PfISD campus, please respond to the included survey. We will provide this information to the appropriate campus principal and ensure that your child has an on-campus spot. Please complete the survey on or before September 2, 2020.

An updated Virtual Testing Page has been created to assist campuses with administering assessments virtually through Eduphoria Aware. The information provided can be helpful to campuses as they plan to administer campus & district tests through Eduphoria.

In addition, a PDF has been created titled “PfISD Virtual Testing Guidelines for Eduphoria – For Teachers” which provides a step-by-step guide on procedures to complete before, during, and after administering a test virtually through Eduphoria. The PDF is available on the Virtual Testing Website, as well as below.

The Little SIS Tool is not removing students from Google Classroom, but it is Adding them with each change made to student schedules. Example: If you change a students’ schedule, it will populate that student to the new section, but it will not remove them from the previous section. This allows the teacher from the previous section time to finish grading assignments, before removing the student. However, students sometimes get in a hurry to have their Google Classroom Dashboard only reflect their current schedule. They use the 3 vertical dots in the Google Classroom Course Tile and remove themselves from the class BEFORE the teacher has time to complete the grading. There is an easy solution. The student still has access to their work or assignments. The student must rejoin the classroom as described HERE, then the previous teacher may finish grading, post the grades in Skyward, and then remove the student from their class.

Chromebook users will need to have an extension added to the Chrome browser to annotate the PDF, if this type of document is assigned in Google Classroom. The extension annotation tool will not allow them to fill in a fillable PDF. Watch the video HERE to learn how to use the FREE KAMI extension tool. The annotation tools are available in the FREE version for students and teachers, if the PDF assignment requires the student to annotate the assignment.

Google Classroom expects that documents added as assignments would be a Google Doc. But, teachers may have a Word Document that is ready for use. Can the Word document be used in Google Classroom? Yes, IF the teacher uploads the word document to Google Drive and converts the Word Document to a Google Doc BEFORE adding it as a Google Classroom assignment. Watch the video HERE. It is a simple step that will help teachers and students be successful. NOTE: Complex word documents will not convert with the same format in Google Docs.

The Read& Write extension may be added to the Chrome Browser. Many students recognize it as the Purple Puzzle piece found in the upper right hand corner of the browser. The company states, “Read&Write lets everyone read, write and express themselves more confidently and independently. Our easy-to-use toolbar makes documents, files and web pages more accessible. Read&Write is a big confidence booster for anyone who needs a little support with their reading and writing.” Our Chromebook users may need assistance in using Read&Write on the Chromebook. You can find the How To Use Guides for Read&Write on the Chromebook on the District iGuide in the Student Chromebook section. The documents are available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
