Don't Say Just...
You've almost made it. High school is ending, and a new journey is beginning. If I can give you one last piece of advice it is this: Don't say just. When someone asks you what you are planning to do, own the response. Whether you are attending a technical college, a university, joining the military, working full time, taking a gap year - you came to this decision for a reason, own it. Be proud of what you plan to do. Don't say, "I'm just going to keep on working" or "I'm just going to college nearby" or "I'm just going to (fill in the blank). The word "just" has the tendency to soften or minimize the choice, it can imply that the choice is "simple, only or no more than" another higher valued option. This is your plan - it belongs to you. For that reason alone, it has enormous value. Own it. Take that step, and begin. Go with all of your being - bring your energy, skills, determination and heart to whatever you choose to do, wherever you plan to begin. Be proud of the work you've done and embrace the work ahead of you. Your plan is yours. It is special and unique because it is yours. Own it. Don't say just.

I'm 18...how do things change?
Congratulations on becoming an adult! "With great power comes great responsibility". ~ Uncle Ben; Spiderman.
There are many rights and responsibilities afforded to you now such as voting, signing contracts, and doing jury duty to name a few. And while you'll always be your parents' child, their access to your legal life changes. There are limits what parents can access related to health care, college information, and finances. This is a great time to talk about money, medical care, and other important decisions.
