Ending on a High Note: Musical Excellence and Important Dates
Dear Tilden Families,
What a wonderful third marking period we've shared together! Our Tilden family continues to grow, learn, and achieve in ways that make our hearts full. From classrooms to performance spaces, our students have shown their incredible potential and commitment to becoming their best selves.
Our music department recently distinguished itself at county evaluations, with all three performing groups earning prestigious recognition. Orchestra 2/3, Band 2/3, and Chorus each received "Excellent" ratings in their performances, with all three groups achieving "Superior" scores—the highest possible rating—in the challenging sight-reading component. Dr. Mark Lortz, Director of Bands at Stevenson University, even praised our band as "a mature, energetic, professional ensemble." These accomplishments reflect both our students' dedication and the outstanding instruction from our music teachers, Mr. Shaw and Mr. Johns.
April brings exciting opportunities to celebrate the diverse cultural tapestry that enriches our school community. On Thursday, April 3rd, students are invited to participate in our Honoring Your Heritage Day by wearing clothing, colors, or patterns representing their cultural backgrounds. That same evening, from 6:30-8:00 PM, we'll host Family Heritage Night in the Tilden Cafeteria—a free event featuring food, crafts, music, and traditions from around the world. We warmly invite all families to join this celebration of our community's diversity.
As we transition to the fourth marking period, please note these important dates:
- March 31: No school for students (Professional Day)
- April 1: First day of the fourth marking period
- April 3: Family Heritage Night at 6:00 PM
- April 7-11: MCAP ELA assessments
- April 8: Report card distribution during Homeroom
The final quarter provides an important opportunity for students to finish the year strong. We encourage families to discuss third quarter progress with their students and set goals for the weeks ahead.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students' growth, whether in academics, the arts, or personal development. Together, we're creating an environment where excellence thrives in all its forms.
With Timberwolf pride,
Principal Hopkins

Sweet Memories of Barbara McGolrick: A Celebration of Life
Luxmanor Staff and PTA will be hosting a celebration of life for Ms. Barbara McGolrick on Friday, April 4th at Luxmanor Elementary from 4:00-6:00 PM. The focus of this event is for MCPS staff and community members to gather in memory of Barb; and pay respects to Barb's immediate family.
As we come together for this special ceremony to celebrate the life of Barb, we kindly ask that this remains an adult-only gathering. As a school, we have created opportunities for our students to honor Barb’s memory through events like Bingo for Barb and Geo Bowl, ensuring that they could celebrate her impact as part of the Luxmanor family. We appreciate your understanding and respect for the significance of this moment.
Please review the evite linked here and RSVP if you plan to attend.
