A Message from Principal DW

Good morning, McKinley Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving break filled with family, friends, and fun! I know I am cherishing this time with my loved ones.

When we return, December will be upon us, bringing a flurry of activities and celebrations. On December 4th, our 5th graders will take an exciting trip to The Broad to experience The Nutcracker. The following day on December 5th, 4th graders will take center stage with their own Music Informance at 11:05 AM in the auditorium. The rest of our students are beginning to learn songs for the Winter Sing Along, so mark your calendars for December 18th!

For our educators, the learning continues as well! Teachers will dive into more professional development with Berkeley Everett from the UCLA Math Project to strengthen our number sense routine practice, as well as Project-Based Learning with our Coordinator of Learning and Innovation and Instructional Coach during our early release time on Wednesday.

Of course, we have something planned for parents too! Based on parent feedback, our school counselor and bilingual community liaison will be providing a parent workshop on supporting your child with homework on December 4th from 8:30-9:30 AM in the Library.

There’s so much to look forward to as we return to school. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the break, and I can’t wait to see you all back on Monday!

On Monday and Tuesday McKinley mathemagicians were doing math during pancake math in Mr. Sinfield's class, building homes in 3rd grade maker space, math mini lessons with Ms. Le and baking pumpkin bread with Ms. Islas.

Retake Picture Day - 12/3

We know—picture day right after Halloween? Whose brilliant idea was that? Between the sugar rushes, candy-coated hair, and the occasional zombie drool, let’s just say the original photos might not have captured your child’s best look. Good news: Picture Retake Day is your second chance to swap those post-Halloween shenanigans for a fresh, candy-free smile! So brush out the last of the Snickers crumbs, tuck in those shirts, and send your kiddos in ready to shine. Retakes will take place on 12/3 and we promise no ghosts or goblins this time around!

Wednesday Snack Sales - 12/4

Come help out with Snack Sales! It's fun! Your child can help sell too! Arrive by 1:00 PM and meet up outside the parent room, located to the left of the 1st-grade classrooms. We’ll set up a table with delicious snacks, including popcorn and drinks. The sale ends promptly at 2:00 PM, and we’ll clean up quickly after.
