Cen10 Class of '23 Class Selection
From Centennial School Counselors
Introduction: READ FIRST
The expectation is that you will review JUNIOR COURSE GUIDE, which lists all the courses available to juniors, AND take the time to read the review course descriptions in the CEN10 COURSE CATALOG for classes that you are considering.
You MUST log on to student connect, review the pre-selected courses your school counselor has recommended, and select additional courses for next year prior to meeting with your school counselor. You will have the ability to select additional courses but only your school counselor is able to make changes to recommended courses . If you want to change any pre-selected courses, you must schedule an appointment to meet with your school counselor. If you fail to schedule an appointment, and have less than six courses selected, your school counselor will select your junior year courses.
Step 1: Review Your High School Transcript
WHAT IS A TRANSCRIPT?
- A transcript is a record of every course/class you've completed.
- GPA information can be found in the yellow box.
- You can find your transcript in Student Connect under Student Documents.
- 1 semester of a course is worth 5 credits.
- You should have 30 credits each fall/spring semester and up to 10 credits each summer.
- At this time, you should have at least 90 credits to be on track for graduation.
- You will need to complete 220 credits to graduate.
- Along with 220 credits, students must fulfill subject requirements (in red below) in order to graduate.
- Earning a D grade is considered passing and you will receive 5 credits. However, a D grade does not meet a-g minimum requirement and should be repeated.
- An F grade is not considered passing and you will not earn any credits.
A-G COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A-G college entrance requirements are classes that are required for admittance to a four year university in California (UC & CSU)
- Many private universities in CA have similar requirements.
- Out of state universities may have different requirements and if you are interested in attending college out of state, you must check the admissions requirements for each specific out of state institution to ensure you are on track to apply.
ARE YOU ON TRACK FOR GRADUATION? ARE YOU ON TRACK TO MEET A-G REQUIREMENTS?
Use the A-G & Graduation Checklist below to ensure you are on track to meet CNUSD graduation requirements and college entrance requirements.
In addition, on your California Colleges Account, you can use the CSU & UC Eligibility Tool to track your progress toward meeting California State University & University of California requirements as well as identify classes you need to retake or areas you still need to take a course.
Click here to watch a video on how to use the CSU/UC Eligibility Tool in California Colleges
Step 2: Review Your Options
- History - U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, or Puente U.S. History
- English - Lang Arts 3, AP English Lit & Comp
- Math - Math placement, it will depend on your current Math class and grade. Please use the Math Placement Guide below for questions.
- Science - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, A.P. Physics
- World Language/Fine Art
- CTE/Elective
The availability of electives varies and your school counselor will pre-select recommended options to meet graduation and/or A-G college entrance requirements. We want you to be aware of the options, but understand they may vary based on class size, teacher availability and how you are doing academically. To help you, we have created two great resources: an Class of 2023 Course Guide & an Online Course Catalog.
Step 3: View Pre-Selected Classes
As of Wednesday April 7th at 6:00 pm, you will have access to view your pre-assigned course requests for the 21/22 school year on Student Connect. The courses listed have been pre-assigned based on school counselor recommendations to meet graduation and/or A-G requirements. You may have openings in your schedule for additional electives.
Keep the following in mind:
- When viewing the classes in student connect, make sure you click on the future year (2021-2022) to view the class that have been pre-selected for you.
Step 4: Enter Electives Course Requests on Student Connect
If you have less than six classes assigned to you, you will have from the evening of Wednesday, April 7 to Friday, April 16 to add elective course requests. Please watch the following video to learn how to add course request. You must follow the video instructions.
Keep the following in mind:
- Your school counselor has reviewed your transcript, graduation, and A-G requirements to determine what courses you MUST take. These courses will be locked and you will not be able to change them on your own.
- Courses that you select are requests and are not guaranteed.
- Please make sure to add both A & B for each class (example: AP Psychology A and AP Psychology B). A=1st semester & B=2nd semester
Step 5: Schedule a Meeting with Your School Counselor
The school counseling department's goal is to meet with all students. During these meeting, you have the opportunity to discuss your 21/22 schedule, sign-up for summer school (if necessary), and post-secondary plans.
Appointments specifically for current Sophomores to meet with their school counselor regarding course selection will open on evening Wednesday, April 7, 2021. All students are assigned school counselors by the first letters of their last name OR if they are interested in Umoja & Puente, then an application must be submitted and you must meet with the school counselor assigned to that program. Any students in Umoja should meet with Ms. Thompson. Any student in Puente should meet with Dr. Gomez.
The window to meet with your school counselor will be from April 8, 2021 to April 16, 2021. Please make scheduling your appointment a priority. Appointment slots are LIMITED.
If you schedule an appointment and do not attend, we CANNOT accommodate rescheduling due to the large amount of students we need to meet with and discuss their schedule.
