December at LES
An Update by Ms. Scorso, 2023
December 2023
Dear LES Community,
It has been wonderful to watch our students flourish this fall! Academic and social progress was shared on the first period report cards distributed December 8th. This winter, we will continue to mark student progress with the middle of the year diagnostic assessments for reading and math and family reports will be sent home in Friday folders. As always, please reach out with any questions.
This December we have been focusing on Kindness and Positive Behavior expectations. Our students completed Kindness lights and shared how they helped others! Students also participated in a special December Positive Behavior raffle! Paw earners were able to participate in a SnowBall Obstacle Course. Many thanks for Mrs. Castillo, Mrs. Delucia, Mr. Borkowski, and Mrs. Burns for helping with this event.
As we approach the winter vacation, our school team would like to wish all our families a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season. We look forward to seeing our students back to school on January 2nd ready to continue to learn and thrive at LES!
Happy Holidays!
Ms. Scorso

Happy Holidays LES Families! Winter is approaching and is a wonderful time for families to cozy up with some good books. Reading aloud offers benefits to children of all ages. All of our LES PreK-4 students will benefit from being read to at home. Reading aloud to children builds their vocabulary, models fluent reading, and helps parents and guardians bond with their children. Over the December break, please have your children continue to read or be read to on a daily basis. To motivate our LES students to read over break, we will have a Winter Break Reading Challenge. These will be sent home with your child, but here are online copies as well.
Winter Break Reading Challenge-English
Winter Break Reading Challenge-Spanish
For more information on the benefits to reading aloud to children of all ages, please check out these two resources.
Have a wonderful holiday and please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Happy December LES Families! This month LES students and staff are recognizing all of the kindness in our building. We are creating a Kindness bulletin board highlighting how students are being kind or how someone was kind to them. As adults, we can model kindness for our children by doing simple things like holding doors for people, saying please and thank you, making small donations, and other ways that show our children the benefits of being kind.
After the holiday break, students may struggle a bit to return to the routines of school. As the break comes to an end, please try to establish bedtime routines and talk about the exciting things school offers for returning students, such as seeing friends, seeing their teacher, assemblies, the 100th day, and learning about fun topics. Model positive thinking for your child. LES teachers will also be reviewing our PBIS rules after the holiday break to ensure our students have a safe and welcoming environment to return to after being away for a week. Please have a safe, fun, and relaxing holiday break. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns as the break comes to an end. Know that your children are loved and the staff looks forward to seeing our families and students after the holidays.
