SALMON SAYS...
Exciting Updates from the Tigerhawk Community!
Spring is just around the corner, bringing with it fresh opportunities, exciting events, and continued progress in our schools. As a result, many things are happening across the district.
Thank You for a Successful Parent-Teacher Conference Season
A big thank you to all parents and guardians who have participated in parent-teacher conferences. Your partnership is essential to student success, and we appreciate your ongoing support in helping our students grow and thrive.
State Wrestling Success
Congratulations to our four state wrestling qualifiers who proudly represented our district! Special recognition goes to Lily Webster for placing 3rd and Emma Cook for finishing 4th—an incredible achievement! We are so proud of our athletes’ dedication and perseverance.
Track & Field Season is Underway
With over 60 Tigerhawks hitting the track this season, we are looking forward to some outstanding performances. Our student-athletes have been working hard, and we are excited to see their efforts pay off in competition and featuring them at multiple home events at our stadium. Go Tigerhawks!
Making History: Our First-Ever Varsity Girls Soccer Team!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Varsity Girls Soccer program—the first-ever Tigerhawk soccer team! These student-athletes are ready to take the pitch and represent our district with pride. We can’t wait to cheer them on in their inaugural season! We encourage our community to come out and support all of our activities as we know that our kids love participating with a large crowd cheering them on.
Looking Ahead: Planning for 2025-26
We are already preparing for the next school year as we finalize our budget, staffing plans, and calendar. Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year is now open online—be sure to register early.
Child Care Project Update
Our childcare project is moving full speed ahead! The building design is nearly complete, and we remain on track to begin construction this summer, with a projected completion in June 2026. However, we still need to raise the matching funds. If you’d like to contribute, visit www.cedcoiowa.com for more information. Remember, all donations are tax-deductible.
It’s a great time to be a Tigerhawk. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make our schools the best they can be while we foster excellence for all.
Go Tigerhawks!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
TEAMMATES
Tigerhawk Family,
Currently, we have far more elementary and secondary C-M students interested in being mentees than adult mentor matches from our communities for our Teammates mentoring program. If you can commit to merely 30-45 minutes per week, then you could become a Teammates Mentor and help positively change the life of one of our Tigerhawk students.
To be clear, these weekly mentoring sessions of 30-45 minutes must take place during the school day and on school grounds to protect everyone involved. (As long as it's when staff are in the building, either immediately before or after school would also be acceptable, as would lunches--as long as the meeting takes place at the school.)
Please consider this personally and ask your friends, neighbors, and family members to also see how easy it could be to make a huge impact in the life of one of our students. Email any questions to Matt Barkalow mbarkalow@colfaxmingo.org, Lindsay Porter lporter1@colfaxmingo.org, or Tara Surprenant tsurprenant@colfaxmingo.org.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
WELLNESS WATCH from Nurse Lindsey
- With spring break and the latter part of the school year approaching, now would be a good time to schedule a physical for your student. All incoming 7th graders must have a Tdap and Meningococcal ACWY vaccine. These vaccines must be completed before the next school year begins, or your student will be excluded from school and activities.
- Please remember our expectations for illness. If a student has a temperature of 100 degrees or greater, has diarrhea, or has been vomiting, we ask that they not return to school until they are symptom-free without the use of medication for 24 hours. If your child has a persistent cough and is generally not feeling well, please use your best judgment. If they are sick, please keep them home.
- Handwashing is one of the best things we can teach our children to prevent the spread of germs. Have a conversation with your student about handwashing and when it should be done. Examples: before meal time or after using the restroom.
If your child has a change in their health status, please reach out to me at lcummins@colfaxmingo.org or give me a call at the elementary at 515-674-3465.
