West End Weekly Update - Week of November 4th, 2024
American Sign Language (ASL) at West End
We are excited to share that our students are learning American Sign Language (ASL) as part of their educational experience here at West End School! Mrs. DeSio, our ASL instructor, is introducing students to sign language, focusing first on essential signs for basic needs and manners. Through ASL, students are building valuable communication skills that promote inclusivity and understanding.
We invite you to support their learning at home by exploring this video on ASL basic needs and manners. Watching and practicing together can help reinforce their skills and bring ASL into daily conversations.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up on November 21st, 22nd, 25th, and 26th, and our teachers are currently reaching out to schedule time with each family. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect, discuss your child’s progress, celebrate their successes, and address any areas for growth.
Drop Off Zone Guidelines
To ensure the safety and efficiency of morning drop-off at West End School, we would like to share some important reminders for using the drop-off zone on Harrington Avenue. Following these procedures helps us keep all students safe and makes the drop-off process smooth for everyone.
Guidelines for Using the Drop-Off Zone on Harrington Avenue:
- Stay in the Drop-Off Lane: Please stay in the designated drop-off lane and avoid parking or stopping in the drive-through lane. This ensures a steady flow of traffic and reduces delays.
- Be Ready to Exit/No Idling: Ensure that students are ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you stop. Staff members are stationed at the door to welcome students. Please do not get out of your car to walk students to the door, as this causes back up traffic.
- Move Forward in Line: Pull forward as far as possible in the drop-off lane before allowing your child to exit. This allows more cars to enter the lane and helps reduce congestion on Harrington Avenue.
- Drive Carefully: Once your child has exited, please proceed slowly and carefully out of the drop-off zone, being mindful of other vehicles and pedestrians.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us create a safe and smooth drop-off experience for everyone. Your support and adherence to these guidelines are essential to making each morning a safe start for all of our students.
Together is Better
This summer, during Convocation, all North Plainfield staff members received a copy of the book, Together is Better by Simon Sinek. Please check out this webpage that highlights how our teachers have been using themes of this book as they work with students this school year!
