Dear Open High Family,

The Open Call to Give is fully underway, and we are SO thankful for all the generous donations we've already received. Please continue to share widely so we can keep giving our students the eduational experience they deserve. STUDENTS can win GIFT CARDS, CASH, and other prizes like Uggs, bluetooth speakers, Kendra Scott necklace, a 3D pen, Adidas slides, Crocs, and much more! There will also be a drawing for a $25 gift card-- any student who gets any donation of any size made in their name gets entered into the drawing. HUGE thank you to PTSA VP Jen Sargent for her hard work on this campaign and to parents Ebony Carter and Melody Mathews who outdid themselves with the delicious Bagel Breakfast on Friday!

As should be obvious, at Open we believe food brings our community together, and each year Student Reps organize our Thanksgiving Feast Potluck which takes place on Tuesday. Each school Family is responsible for a “Family Dinner,” and students should have signed up to bring in an item to share. We'll have an altered schedule to give time to give thanks:

1st Period: 8:30 - 9:20
2nd Period: 9:25 - 10:15
4th Period: 10:20 - 11:10
5th Period: 11:15 - 12:05
6th Period: 12:10 - 1:00
Family Food & Fun: 1:05 - 3:30

Keep supporting the Black Student Union (BSU) and their canned food drive by delivering cans to Family Heads. And we're thrilled to announce the formation of the Latino Student Union (LSU) which is already working on their first service project -- a Winter Coat Drive. As should also be obvious, Open wants to be a welcoming environment for ALL students, and these clubs are also open to ALL.

Please extend congratulations to the 2024-2025 Open High Community Court. Elected by the entire student body, the court oversees grievances among members of the community and provides recommendations for solutions. The goal is to help individuals or groups peacefully and judiciously resolve conflicts. The five judges are:

Congratulations also to freshman Ginny Kidd, sophomore Sadie Rose, and senior Kyran Jones! Ginny will represent Open at the regional Poetry Out Loud competition; Sadie recently performed a leading role in Sparc's musical Hadestown; and senior Kyran Jones won 2nd place in the Omega Psi Phi Essay Contest. Our students are doing so many great things, so please share so we can celebrate their accomplishments!

Speaking of accomplishments, please join me in thanking the exceptional Open High team of teachers and staff for the hard work they do every day to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

PTSA

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM. Please become a member and make your voice heard. Your dues are an important funding source for our school, supporting field trips, teacher classroom supplies, student clubs, monthly breakfasts, senior scholarships, the fall festival, the end-of-the year picnic, teacher appreciation week, holiday treats, and more! Joining does not obligate you to anything although we are always looking for more help! Extra donations are also very much appreciated. Consider linking your Kroger Shopper's Card to the Open High PTSA.
