Egypt Project!

Sometime in mid-March, when we all entered into our long confinement, the Getty Center in Los Angeles posted this quarantine-challenge to any and all takers:

Re-create your favorite artwork using just three objects lying around home.

The challenge went something like this: Choose your favorite piece of art from the Getty’s own collection, and “copy” it using nothing but household items.

Now, I am going to deliver a similar challenge. Here are the rules:

1. Choose a piece of Ancient Egyptian art
   
2. Determine how you want to copy it using ONLY items that you have in your home RIGHT THIS MINUTE. In other words, regardless of the availability of curbside pickup from your local crafts store or the all-powerful lure of amazon.com, you may NOT buy or order anything to supplement your creativity. Use only the stuff that you have on hand. Period.
   
3. Take a photograph of your creation
   
4. Upload both the photo of the original piece of art and your interpretation of it onto the Padlet that I have created for this purpose
   
5. Add a brief paragraph stating the title of the original piece and some related and interesting fact about Ancient Egypt (see the paragraph instructions towards the end of this SMORE)
   

In assigning a grade on this project, what I am looking for are these things:

• That you chose an appropriate piece of Ancient Egyptian art to copy
  
• That your own version shows imagination and creativity (with humor being a highly encouraged side product)
  
• That your paragraph is written in your own words
  
• That you have uploaded all components of this project to the Egypt Project Padlet as instructed and on time
  

Here are examples of Egyptian art from which to choose. I found all of them at the Metropolitan Museum of Art site. Each one has a writeup that describes the piece in detail. You do not need to use one of these images. Instead, you can find another one if it suits you better, but it MUST be authentic Ancient Egyptian art. If the piece that interests you has many images on it (such as on a papyrus scroll or a tomb painting), choose a handful of images or a single image to inspire your own piece.

3. Full-family involvement is encouraged for your picture; however, paragraph must be your own
