June 5th: Field Day
Field Day (June 5th) Message from Mrs. Siegel
We are looking forward to a great Field Day coming up on Monday, June 5th.
In order to make the day as enjoyable as possible, we ask the following:
Please give your child any medication that they typically need for seasonal allergies prior to school
Be sure your child is protected by sunscreen before school. We are not able to provide sunscreen here at school.
If your child is a self carry for either/or an epi pen and inhaler, please be sure their name is on it and have them wear shorts with adequate pockets that will hold their supply.
Hydration is important! Please send your student to school with a single use water bottle that has their name on it.
Message from Mr. Burleson and Mrs. Roel
Dear 5th and 6th grade readers,
We want you to continue the phenomenal job you’ve done this year reading throughout the upcoming summer. We have several lists to share with you that are great places to start your summer exploration. The first is the 2024 Caudill list. These books are always popular, and we’ll be pushing them in the fall, so why not get a head start on them over the summer? The second two lists are put out by the American Library Association for grades 3-5 and 6-8. While we realize the second list might be a stretch for some, it has a lot of range for our readers.
Be sure to visit the Winnetka Public Library to participate in their summer reading program. In addition to the fantastic prizes, you’ll get even more recommendations! You can find the lists at the following links:

Happy READing!

The Department of Innovation, Teaching and Learning is gathering feedback about this new approach. The survey results will be reviewed in order to determine areas of strength and areas for improvement related to implementation of single-subject and grade acceleration. Episode #7: Tips on Supporting Young Readers & Preventing the Summer Slide
Dr. Kelly Tess, Superintendent, speaks to middle school reading specialists Sheri Johnston and Suzanne Savard about how to best foster childrens’ literacy during the summer months. Along with summer reading recommendations, they provide tips on what may support your child to grow in confidence in their reading skills–whether they are an avid or reluctant reader.
