Your Voice is Needed!
"Hello Ordean East Families! The time has come for us to share our Spring Family Climate Survey. We know there are a LOT of surveys out there, and it can be hard to remember to do them all, but please know that we use your input to help drive the direction of some programs that we use for our students. YOUR INPUT IS VALUABLE! Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and let us know your thoughts. We appreciate it so much. Thank you!"

Acts of Service At Ordean
Last week, Advisories were challenged to create a mini project to benefit Ordean School around our theme for the month - Service.
Here are a few of the mini acts of kindness/gratitude/service that students shared around Ordean:
-Put kind post-it note messages on lockers.
-Write Thank You notes to staff and teachers.
-Sing "You are my Sunshine" to another advisory group (Ummm...We giggled A LOT)
-Clean up trash around Ordean.
-8th Graders cleaned up garbage at several city parks!
-Make a plan to say something kind during another class period and report back.
Way to go, Ordean students! Enjoy some photos of our service in action.
Glimpse Into the 8th Grade Field Trip Experience
Students Share Their Thoughts
"The past few days of field trips were very fun for me. They were a lot more engaging than if I had sat in a classroom and learned about them. For example, if a teacher had been telling me about wars and stuff, I probably would've been a little bored. But walking around the Bong Museum with all the photos and artifacts and the veteran telling us his story, I thought that was pretty interesting."
"In the past three days I've learned a lot. The first thing that I learned was where our waste water goes. I never really put in much thought when I flushed the toilet or washed my hands. But eventually I learned that our waste water goes to WLSSD and eventually gets put back into nature. My other thing that I learned is to go out to help our community. I learned this when we did our trash pick up and saw how polluted it was, which made me sad. In conclusion, over the past few days I learned where our waste water goes and how important it is to help out our community."
"Something that I learned during the field trips was about public defenders. Public defenders are people who represent people who cannot afford a lawyer of their own. For example, if you are homeless and just scraping by, then you could still have an equal opportunity than rich people who could afford ten lawyers if they wanted. I think that this is really important because everyone, guilty or not, should have an equal and equitable opportunity during a court case, no matter their status or income. Public defenders are very important, and up until yesterday, I had no idea what they were!"
Field Experience Video
One of our lovely teachers created a fantastic video including pictures from all of the field experience days. Great work and thank you Ms. Timmersman! π

πΈ Special Thanks to Our Donors πΈ
Thank you to Maurices and all our individual donors for supplying our Ordean East Middle School Kids Closet with clothing items and supplies for our students who may need a little extra help! Maurices came through with much needed women-sized shirts! Thank them next time you are in their store!
Would you like to help too? The OEMS Kids Closet could use sweatpants of all sizes, but especially adult M, L and XL. Drop off any donations to the main office!
Meet David Clark - Our New Dean of Students! π
Iβm a proud College of St. Scholastica grad who took the scenic route back to Duluth. I left Minnesota for the Arizona sun, wandered into the Colorado mountains, and finally made my way home (turns out you can go back again, especially if you miss real lakes and decent bond fires.
I coach football, run the high school weight room, and balance all that intensity with skiing, hiking, and very chill walks⦠with my cat. And dog. (One of them enjoys it. The other just tolerates me.)
