Tips for a Strong Start to Trimester 2
As we transition into the new trimester after the break, here are a few tips to ensure success:
📅 Review Your Schedule: Make sure you know your updated classes and locations.
📝 Set Goals: Take a moment to reflect on Trimester 1 and set new academic and personal goals.
⏰ Establish a Routine: Consistent habits are key—balance schoolwork, extracurriculars, and rest.
💬 Stay Connected: Reach out to teachers or counselors if you need help or have questions.
We will not be sending out a newsletter next week, so this one covers the next two weeks!
Thank you for all you do to make Skyline a wonderful place for our students to grow and thrive. Let’s make Trimester 2 a great success together!
With Gratitude,
Your Skyline Administration Team

Skyline High School's Holiday Giving Program
Support Our Holiday Giving Program
As the holiday season approaches, we invite you to join us in supporting our school community through our reimagined giving program. With a focus on empowerment, we’re moving away from a traditional wish list model to providing gift cards, allowing families the freedom to choose gifts that are meaningful and meet their unique needs with dignity. This year, the need is especially great, and every contribution makes a meaningful difference for our families.
We’re seeking donations of gift cards in $25 or $50 increments. Please feel free to donate as many gift cards as you are able. Sign up to select which gift card(s) you’d like to donate, and drop them off in the Main Office during school hours. To ensure we have everything ready, please submit all donations by November 26th, before Thanksgiving break begins. Thank you for giving what you can to help make the season brighter for everyone in our community. For questions, please contact Kate Waanders (waandersk@aaps.k12.mi.us) or Chaundra Randle (randlec@aaps.k12.mi.us).

Skyline Journalists Present at MSU's School of Journalism
Thanks to our funders at The Knight Foundation for Environmental Journalism, The Skyline Post spent Wednesday November 13th at Michigan State University's School of Journalism touring the facilities, meeting professors, and supporting Ashley Han ('26) and Olivia Watters ('26) as they presented their yearlong reporting into the environmental condition of Skyline's salamanders and wetlands. Congrats to Ashley and Olivia for their dogged reporting -- and stay tuned for their forthcoming article!
Michigan School Band & Orchestra All-State Band
Three Skyline Band students were accepted into the Michigan School Band and Orchestra All State Band this year, Benjamin Huang on Clarinet, Catherine Lee on Oboe and Oskar MacArthur on Trumpet.
Skyline Teacher Lakesha Barton Keeping Busy!
Lakesha Barton and Skyline's BSU students are sponsoring a campaign to Be Kind, and promote kindness, compassion, and community. BSU is seeking to highlight the greatness that we have within our building.
Additionally, she is also doing a project with her Earth Science students about access to clean water and the social implications that accompany that. This past Tuesday, her guest speaker was Gillian Gainsley, Chief of Staff, Department of Michigan Environmental, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
This past Wednesday, her students had the opportunity to participate in a Zoom panel with Florida and North Carolina residents affected by hurricane Helene and Milton devastation. Skyline students were given the chance to ask questions of the panelists; one of which was a former Skyline teacher!
SAEBRS Screener
In our efforts to support the well-being of all our students, Skyline High School will be administering a universal assessment of social, emotional & behavioral health to all students. Below is a disclosure statement with information about the screener. Please take a moment to read the information below. If you choose not to allow your student to participate, you may use the link below to opt out.
STUDENT WELL-BEING SCREENER DISCLOSURE
Skyline staff care deeply about our students, and we want to check in with all students to assess how they are doing. To assist us in this effort, we administering a behavioral wellness screener to all of our students. The SAEBRS (The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief and research-validated self-rating scale that is completed by students. This information helps us to understand the needs of all our students and to make effective plans at the whole school, class, and individual level.
A member of the our screening & support team will follow up with any student whose scores indicate they may need additional support. This school year, Skyline High School will be administering the screener 2 times: in December and again in the Spring. If you would like additional information about this universal assessment and student supports we have at Skyline School please reach out to your child's counselor.
CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT
Results of this screener will only be reviewed by district mental health professionals and shared with appropriate staff and/or parents on a need to know basis. The screener is not being used to provide a diagnosis or to treat any mental health conditions, but rather as a guide to determine the current behavioral well-being of our student population.
OPT OUT
If you have no objection to the screener, no further action is necessary, and your student will participate.
If you would prefer that your student NOT participate in this screening during this school year, please complete this form by Dec. 2, 2024. If you have multiple students at Skyline, please complete the survey for each student. You will receive a separate e-mail for each student. If you opted your student out of the survey during a previous school year, you will need to opt them out again for this school year.
