TLC School Improvement Update
ATTENDANCE--We want every student to have a minimum of 85% attendance for the entire school year.
ACADEMIC GROWTH--We want every student to pass all of their classes.
LIFE READINESS--We want every student to meet the requirement for post secondary readiness according to the Kentucky Department of Education.
Attendance
Please continue to encourage your students to attend school regularly. Remember, our schoolwide goal for this year is 85%. Currently our schoolwide attendance is 83%. We really need your support in order to reach this goal.
How can you help?
1. Make sure excuse notes are returned with three days of the students return to school and include:
- The current date
- The student’s (printed) first and last name
- The date(s) of the absence(s) (not just the days of the week)
- The reason for the absence(s)
- The parent/guardian signature.
2. Refer your student for mental health services if that is affecting their attendance: Counseling Consent Form
3. Reach out to your student's Advisory teacher for support.
Academic Performance
Academically, we are focused on ensuring that all of our students are passing ALL of their classes. Most of our students are behind with regards to credits and it is imperative that our students pass all of their classes in order to graduate on time. Over the last two years, our graduation rate has been 99%.
At TLC our grades are based on Employability (20%), Formative Assessments (20%) and Summative Assessment(60%). Students earn their Employability through EOS by being productive and respectful members of their classes. Formative assessments are used by teachers to provide feedback as students engage in the learning process. Summative assessments used by teachers to allow students to demonstrate mastery learning with regards to academic standards, usually at the conclusion of a unit.
How can you help?
- Check your student's grades on Infinite Campus on a weekly basis.
- Have conversations with your student about their grades, there successes, and their struggles..
- Reach out to your student's Advisory teacher if they are struggling.
Life Readiness
The most important focus for all of the TLC community is to ensure that all of our students graduate "life ready." It is an expectation that 100% of all of our students will graduate. We met this goal last year. However, we need the help of our families and communities to ensure that our students are ready to be productive members of society and are able to pursue their dreams after they graduate from TLC.
One important aspect of being prepared for life after high school is the ACT. The ACT is a placement test that all students at TLC will take in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Our Seniors are taking the official ACT on October 17th and our 10th and 11th graders will take the official ACT in March. This test is important for admission to college and for scholarships.
How can you help?
- Review the following resource with your student(s): ACT for Parents and Students
- Help your student(s) schedule time to practice the ACT: Free Online ACT Prep
- Reach out to your student's Advisory teacher for any assistance in preparing for the ACT.
