What's Happening Weekly @ MRH

The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District Board of Education recognizes the hard work in which the administration and staff are engaged. Throughout this school year, we will participate in community roundtable talks (see item below), communication labs with the MRH-NEA, and Strategic Planning committee meetings, as well as review survey and other data, in order for the Board to better understand the strengths and areas of growth of District Culture and Climate and provide impactful governance regarding the same. We are excited to work together with administration and staff to foster a supportive and positive work environment.

The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District Board of Education invites all community members to the continuing series “Community Roundtables” from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 5. It will be the third installment of this popular engagement opportunity, held once again at the Masonry Institute, 1429 S. Big Bend in Richmond Heights. It’s free to attend, but registration is required. Act quickly; seats will fill fast. Those requiring child care should contact the MRH Communications Office to make arrangements.

The title of the session is “For Our Resources: Finances.” It aligns with one of the five priority sections of the MRH Strategic Plan. Anyone interested in learning more about the intricacies of public school finance is urged to attend for a robust discussion about funding sources, how your tax dollars are spent and future needs in order to continue providing high-quality education. Attendees will have ample opportunity to pose questions and offer suggestions.

With student drivers now using the Maplewood Family Aquatic Center parking lot every day, a solution was needed to keep them safe on the walk from the pool to the High School. MRH teamed up with Aspire Construction, NAVIGATE Building Solutions and Maplewood Public Works to install the fencing seen in the photos below. District Operations Director Dr. Mike Dittrich says the fencing will protect the walkers from traffic along Lohmeyer Avenue, and separate them from the construction work occurring at the Maplewood Public Library. Special thanks goes to Maplewood Public Works Superintendent (and MRH alum) Jason Watkins for spearheading this safety initiative by making the barriers available.

The MRH Elementary PTO has assembled a fabulous panel of experts from within and connected to the MRH community to answer questions about student mental health. These questions can be submitted beforehand through the PTO website. The PTO invites parents and caregivers from the ECC and Middle School to join as well.

This week's nomination comes from High School parent Amelia Monroe, whose nominee exemplifies the School As Apprenticeship metaphor:

"I'd like to nominate Coach Sausele for his continued effort and commitment to not only train the basketball teams but also empower them. Coach does a great job on and off the court. He shows his dedication to enforcing standards for student athletes and he does a phenomenal job of making sure they look forward to what lies ahead after graduation. From weekly grade checks to setting students up for job shadowing, he truly cares about the students around him... which genuinely shows his compassion. Coach has been a blessing for my family just by being present in my student's life. It has made a world of difference."
