Troy Senior Citizens Go Back to School!
This week, 38 Troy seniors joined us for an exciting tour of Troy schools! They had the opportunity to participate in classes at both Troy High and Athens, learned about the exciting work being done through the 2022 Bond, and enjoyed lunch at the Terrace Cafe at Athens. We are so grateful to these Troy citizens for joining us!

Introducing the New Wattles Logo, Alex the Wildcat!
We Want To Hear From You!
As many of you are aware, the district has been working on an Attendance Area Review (changing some school district boundaries). Part of this process involves extensive discussions that could potentially affect our entire school community. With that said, we need to hear from you!
This process began with the formation of the Attendance Area Review Committee in the fall. The Committee developed potential options aimed at addressing enrollment imbalances and eliminating double splits in student transitions without impacting our high schools. These proposals were presented to the Board of Education in January, and the Board requested more information about Option C.
TSD hosted five community meetings during March and April to discuss the current options and gather feedback from the community. TSD Administration and the Board of Education now invite you to complete a survey to share your thoughts on the potential attendance area changes, factors to consider in making these changes, such as Schools of Choice, and more. The survey will remain open until Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m.
Secondary students will be asked to complete an optional, age appropriate survey on this topic during school.
We thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this important survey.

Let's Celebrate National Poetry Month
✍🏽 Got Poetry?
Poetry has a universal appeal and distinctive qualities. Many poems, with concise and melodic structures, provide a seamless way for learners and poetry lovers to engage with language and different forms of expression. Children absorb language effortlessly, often without realizing it, which we notice when reciting songs/rhymes. Reading poetry aloud offers opportunities for children to hone vocal skills, including volume, pitch, and voice modulation, among other things. Consider incorporating poetry into your classroom and/or home environments. Make room for different modes of expression. Poetry is an art form that lives within each of us!

Athletic Facilities & Grounds Improvements
Dear Troy Families,
As we move through the spring and into the summer, we are excited to provide you with regular updates on the progress of bond-funded upgrades to our athletic facilities at both Athens and Troy High Schools. These improvements reflect our continued commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience and maintaining top-tier facilities for our community.
This week, we're going to focus on the improvements at Troy High. In future newsletters, we'll share the improvements made at Athens and what is planned for the future.
Troy High School
Last summer, Troy High received several key upgrades, including:
- New artificial turf varsity baseball and softball fields
- New natural grass JV baseball and softball fields
- New bathrooms and storage shed to serve the baseball & softball fields
- Auxiliary athletic fields
- Updated track competition areas (discus, shot put, and long jump)
- The natural grass areas of these projects are still in their establishment phase and will need the spring and summer to grow in completely.
This summer, additional improvements are underway:
- New Concession Stand/Ticket Booth – Construction is already in progress. The old perimeter fencing near the athletic parking lot has been removed, and a temporary fence now surrounds the site. As a result, a temporary access route to the baseball and softball fields has been established and will remain in place through the summer.
- New Tennis Courts – Similar to the tennis upgrades at Athens last year, Troy High’s courts will be rebuilt to provide improved playing surfaces.
- Athletic Parking Lot – This area will also be modified and upgraded to accommodate the new stadium entrance and better serve our student-athletes and visitors.
We’re grateful for your continued support as we enhance our facilities to meet the needs of current and future student-athletes. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback. Regular updates will be provided as construction progresses.

This year, the Wattles math committee paired 4th graders with kindergarteners to reinforce math concepts. While students are showing steady progress with their math learning, the biggest benefit from this collaboration has been strengthening the bonds between grades and instilling a different kind of confidence in the students. In this week's Portraits series, we take a closer look at how this initiative has created an opportunity for students to thrive together.

Scam Alert from Troy Police
From the Troy Police Department:
We recently received a report from a Troy School District teacher who was targeted in a phone scam. The teacher received a message falsely claiming to be from the Troy Police Department, instructing them to call back a different number. The caller ID appeared to show the Troy Police Department as the source of the voicemail.
When the teacher returned the call, the person on the other end falsely identified themselves as a Troy Police officer. They claimed the teacher had missed jury duty and would need to pay $6,000 to avoid arrest. The scammer then texted the shared image containing payment instructions, personal information, and logos from the Troy Police Department and other agencies to make the request appear legitimate.
Please be aware: scammers can use phone apps to "spoof" caller IDs, making it seem like calls are coming from official sources. If you receive a suspicious call or want to verify the identity of a caller, do not hesitate to contact the Troy Police Dispatch Center directly at 248-524-3477.
