Miller Career & Technology Center students and parents,

It is hard to believe that next week will mark the end of the 1st six weeks of the 2024- 2025 school year. Wow! The next few holiday months will bring about increased activities and busier schedules. Please read below for a few campus updates, initiatives, and reminders.

Are you passionate about sharing your experience and helping others discover exciting career and technical course opportunities? We’re looking for enthusiastic students to join us as our first-ever Student Ambassadors for Miller Career & Technology Center (MCTC)! As an ambassador, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our campus’s future by promoting and participating in a variety of our recruiting events.

These recruiting events include:

• serving on a student panel during home campus 9th grade tours of MCTC
• assisting with presentations delivered at our junior high campuses to 8th graders
• helping work your CTE program table at our District Elective Fair
• showcasing your CTE program at our campus Preview Nights
• assisting with Miller Monster Mash
• promoting MCTC during your home campus lunches when our Counselor visits your campus
• And more!

Students selected as ambassadors will be asked to commit to assisting with at least 2 of the activities listed above this school year, more if he/she chooses.

This is your chance to take on a leadership role, build valuable skills, and be at the forefront of an exciting new chapter for our campus. This year, our campus fundraiser includes a Miller spirit shirt and tumbler. The shirt represents each of our career programs on the back. The tumbler is not only functional but students can receive $1.00 drink refills at our Old Town Bistro. Please see the flyer below for more information. Our first SkillsUSA meeting of the year was a great success! If you are interested in becoming an official member of one of our campus chapters, please submit your membership dues ($50.00) through Pay N' Go. The chapter advisor will reach out to you with additional information regarding upcoming meetings and activities.

This year, we have developed a MCTC EPIC² Student Canvas course, where we will share information with students and parent observers regarding whole-campus procedures, activities, and initiatives. This is just one other source of communication with our community. All students have already been added to the course and therefore, parents have observer access.

Katy ISD encourages high school students to pursue their areas of special talents and interests to enrich their academic experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, and Athletics. Many CTE courses offered at Miller Career & Technology Center qualify as GPA exempt courses.

What that means: Once approved, students will receive credit for the qualifying GPA exempt course but will have their grade excluded from the GPA and class rank computation. In order to apply for a GPA exemption, students must currently have a 4.0 or above GPA and maintain a B average in the GPA exempt course to maintain eligibility. Students may take a maximum of three (3) credits on a GPA exempt basis during their high school career.

The GPA Exempt Courses Information and Online Application are located within the GPA Exempt tile on MyKaty Cloud.

If a student is interested in applying for a GPA exemption for a qualifying course he/she is currently enrolled in and meets all the criteria above, he/she needs to:

1. Complete the online GPA Exempt application located in MyKaty Cloud.
2. Submit the application no later than the determined deadline (Thursday, September 19). At this time, if all criteria are met, it will be approved, and a course change will be made to reflect enrollment in a GPA Exempt course.
3. Once the student makes the decision to take a course as GPA-exempt, the decision is final and cannot be changed.
4. Students enrolled in full-year courses do not need to reapply during the second semester.
5. Students, including move-in students, who miss the deadline for application for the first semester, may apply for exemption for the second semester if they meet the criteria.

2024 - 2025 GPA Exempt Course Information

Students have 3 options to travel to and from Miller Career & Technology Center:

1. Students may take District-provided bus transportation (Specific route information below.)
2. Students may drive themselves to and from Miller (See Parking Permit Information below.)
3. Students may be dropped off and picked up (see locations below).

All students who drive a vehicle to Miller Career & Technology Center (MCTC) must display a MCTC permit on the front lower right (interior passenger side) window. Payment and application for a permit is required in Pay 'N Go BEFORE driving to MCTC. Please note: Students who drive a vehicle without a permit will be fined.

Instructions:

1. Pay the $10.00 permit fee through Pay 'N Go. Write down your confirmation number.
2. Complete the 24-25 Parking Permit Request form (form requires uploading a copy of student's valid Texas Driver License, proof of current insurance for the vehicle, and Pay 'N Go confirmation #).

• Electronically acknowledge terms of the Parking Agreement (within the Google request form).
• Complete the Permission for Student/Parent-Provided Transportation (within the Google request form).
