Most Holy Trinity is implementing the “Friendzy” program this school year. The program is designed to help with social emotional learning; It emphasizes skills that will help us build community in the classrooms and throughout our school.

September’s Friendzy theme was “We Need Each Other.” Our students worked on activities that help them understand the importance of valuing everyone in their class, as well as everyone in our school. In the video below, our eighth grade students are conducting a trust walk that has students guiding others who are blindfolded to certain points on a course where they pick up markers . or blindfolded students needed to listen closely and follow directions from their peers.

We are already seeing signs of success . Some notable examples of people responding to help with need: We have more students helping at mass as altar servers, readers, gift bearers and by singing in the choir. Our choir is hosting younger students at rehearsal and teaching them new music for upcoming masses. Our students are also taking turns cleaning their tables at the end of lunch, and not leaving the work for our custodial and maintenance staff. Our teachers and administration reinforce these actions whenever we see them through personal compliments and through announcements to the school.

The Friendzy program will run throughout the school year. To pay for the program, GAPS Funding was used. This funding was provided to our school through the federal government to help long-term needs as a result of the loss of instructional time during Covid. There will be a new theme each month. To read about next month’s theme, please see below. We will provide more information on a regular basis so that you may help us reinforce these skills as well.

Ya estamos viendo señales de éxito. Algunos ejemplos notables de personas que responden a la ayuda en caso de necesidad: Tenemos más estudiantes ayudando en misa como monaguillos, lectores, portadores de obsequios y cantando en el coro. Nuestro coro acoge a los estudiantes más jóvenes en los ensayos y les enseña música nueva para las próximas misas. Nuestros estudiantes también se turnan para limpiar sus mesas al final del almuerzo y no dejar el trabajo a nuestro personal de conserjería y mantenimiento. Nuestros profesores y administración refuerzan estas acciones cada vez que las vemos a través de elogios personales y anuncios al colegio.

El programa Friendzy se ejecutará durante todo el año escolar. Para pagar el programa, se utilizó financiación GAPS. Este financiamiento fue proporcionado a nuestra escuela a través del gobierno federal para ayudar con las necesidades a largo plazo como resultado de la pérdida de tiempo de instrucción durante Covid. THIS MONTH /// We are moving into our second Friendzy unit, Love At All Times. This unit challenges the way we think about love. It’s easy to love the lovable, but it can be tough to love someone who is unkind, cranky, or rude. God’s Word instructs us to love all the time—not just sometimes. Friendzy will challenge and equip your child to show compassion and kindness ALL the time, even when it’s hard.

I have attached our monthly calendar for October 2024 to this letter. Here is a brief description of last month’s highlights and coming events:

Coming Up

• Eighth Grade will attend mass of the Holy Spirit Monday, September 30th, 9:00 AM at St. Raphael
• October is the month of the holy rosary. We will have virtual family rosaries at 6 PM
• Tuesday, October 1st
• Tuesday, October 8th
• Tuesday, October 15th
• Tuesday, October 22nd

We hope you can join us to pray the rosary

• Our room parents will meet Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:00 PM.
• We will have a Home and School meeting Wednesday, October 9th at 6:00 PM. all students whose parents attend will receive free dress Pass for Thursday, October 10th .
• Most Holy Trinity teachers will attend in service on Friday October 11th at Father Yermo. All students will have a holiday on this day
• MHT Board will meet October 16th at 6:30 PM
• Report Cards will be distributed during Parent-Teacher Conference on Friday, October 18th. Students will not attend school on this day. Your child’s teacher will send information so you may schedule your appointments; appointments will be on a first come, first serve basis.
• VIRTUS Trainings
• English Wednesday October 9th from 2:00- 5:00 PM
• English Saturday, October 19th from 8:30-12:00 in the church.
• Spanish Saturday, October 26th, 8:30-12:00 in the church. If you are going to volunteer to drive other children besides their own to field trips you must have this training. To register please visit virtusonline.org www.virtusonline.org/virtus/

VIRTUS Registration steps are attached below

• 8th Grade students will visit Loretto and Cathedral Wednesday, October 23rd at 8:00 AM. They will be receiving information on academics, extra-curriculars, tuition and scholarships. Please wear your dress uniform
• Raffle tickets are due Wednesday, October 23rd. Students who bring in all raffle money may wear Free Dress on Thursday October 24th
• We will hold our annual Halloween Carnival Friday October 25th from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. We will also draw prize winners for our fall raffle. Grand prize is game tickets for two people and an $800 Gift Card to Dallas to watch

Mrs. Zuniga, our Virtus Coordinator has agreed to offer the 3 hour Virtus session on Wednesday, Oct. 9th from 2-5 pm here at our school. If you are interested in taking the 3 hour course, please click on the following website and register for this new, Oct. 9th session. www.virtusonline.org

Keep in mind that if you do take the 3 hour session, you will only need to renew your certification once a year by viewing an online module and answering a couple of questions on the module viewed. You would only need to come in and fill out the opt in/opt out of the course for your child. This would identify you as an independent volunteer and therefore, you would have more opportunities to fully participate in all of our school's activities.

What Is NSLW?

Learning is tough work—and kids need fuel if they’re going to learn! That’s why a healthy midday meal is crucial to the growing children who go to school. Since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW), this annual observance has promoted the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has both in and out of the classroom.

The Importance of School Lunch

Even though National School Lunch Week was declared in 1962, the National School Lunch Program goes back even further, back to 1946. Created to provide nutritious meals to children from low-income families who might not otherwise have access to a daily meal, NSLP ensures the health and well-being of all public school students, boosts academic performance by giving students the fuel they need to succeed, and closes the opportunity gap for children across the country. Today, the National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day. Not only does it reduce childhood hunger, but it also supports American agriculture.

¿Qué es NSLW?
